OT: BBC at Labour Conf

I see that the BBC's chief political editor, that Laura Kuenssberg, has been assigned a body guard for her time at the Labour Conference after threats from left wing thugs and trolls.
Says it all, really.

As usual, Our Dave makes it up as he goes along. Had Jo Cox been getting threats prior to her killing? LK has.

Really?

Pretty well every public figure who uses social meja gets threats, and she certainly did. I take it you don't live in this world?

See above.

I prefer email myself, but if a group of people use social media to keep in touch then ....

I don't. I prefer facebook mainly because you can just browse over the stuff some of your friends choose to post with the more important stuff they do like moving, new kids, grandkids etc. Corse only a subset of my friends do that and I don't actually do it myself, but its useful with the ones that do.

I find both facebook and email have there places, I can get a bit bogged do wn with facebook posts even though I only have 80 friends I don't really wa nt to know what most of then are doing day in day out. With some I have to tell them to email me if they want a response as I won't be reading all the ir 100s of posts.

Yeah, some people I know well I communicate with entirely by email or imessage and others entirely by facebook or messenger.

Urk, I only have 19 and deliberately avoid friending friends of friends so my feed doesn’t get cluttered with stuff about people I don’t know personally.

None of mine post much of that stuff. Mostly the more important stuff like one who has just had to dig up the entire backyard when the sewer ended up dumping in the inground pool and it turned out to be a blockage in the main sewer down the road after all.
Or with one who has just been off on an exchange trip for a year etc mostly to scandinavia.

Mine use messenger in facebook for that stuff.
Some others do it exclusively by email.

s,

All but one I know personally and have met in the real world and if I saw t hem I'd go up and talk to them. I have one friend with over 500 friends on FB he spends lots of time on FB too, I try to have a `10 minute look and I' m off.

funny enough a friend on FB emailed me to tell me of his trip to sweden he said it was great apart from when he dropped his macbook pro on concrete, i t still works but it didn't restart properly after installing high sierra. So he's not entirly sure as yet to a solution.

I don’t friend people I know that casually.

I don’t know anyone like that personally, let alone have one as a friend.

Yeah, my visits are usually shorter than that and I personally admin a group with me as the only admin, so I have to approve or decline people who want to join and normally get a few every day. And delete the off topic spam that gets posted, tho that’s much less common, usually only one a month or so.

Yeah, almost all do post about stuff like that.

Yeah, about half of the support stuff like that comes via FB.
