FWIW, I (like you, perhaps) only ever use Prime when they give me a free trial period. I then take care to cancel well before it turns into a paid membership. So I am well versed in cancelling these deals.

As you will know, Amazon play all sorts of tricks to actually hook you into Prime membership. Perhaps surprisingly, I find it fairly easy to cancel, at least before trial period expiry:

- After logging in, go to 'Your Account'

- click on 'Prime' "manage your membership, view benefits..." You then get the option: - cancel Prime - do you really want to cancel Prime? - are you sure you want to cancel Prime? - Jeff thinks you probably don't want to cancel Prime!

etc.

Well I've just had another look.

According the Amazon, I have an account, they are happy for me to log in. However, there is no list of previous purchases and they are offering a free 30 day Prime trial period! Oh well. Check my credit card account at the end of the month!

ISTR that if you canel almost immediately after signing up, you still get Prime for free until the month's free trial runs out. I'm not sure how many times you can do it. I've done it at least twice - but separated by a time gap of several years.

I've had several free trials over the years. Guaranteed if I've not ordered for a while. (The order I placed a couple of weeks ago, with free trial, also offered same day delivery for two of the items. And going OT but similar, a couple of years ago I reluctantly decided to take a month with Newspapers.com (because they have the Times and the Guardian, which are not available on the British Newspaper Archive) did my research straight away and then cancelled the renewal. My 'subscription' was converted to a free trial, although I forget how long for. Don't know if I'd get away with this trick again.)

OK all. Now cancelled. The sneaky bit was that Amazon opened a new account with my details but no record of previous purchases and no means of cancelling prime.

The work around was to log in using an earlier purchase message as an address source. Cancelling then available. I may yet get a bill:-(

I did once accidentally sign up to Prime because I didn't notice a box was pre-ticked, and I didn't therefore clear the tick. I later got a "Welcome to Prime" email which alerted me that I had somehow signed up, and I cancelled it immediately. I did still get the Prime benefits until the trial period expired.
