Not so 'smart' meter installation

A few months ago, my water supply company replaced my 'smart' meter, as it was not talking to the Mother Ship. The new one was supposed to take a month to establish communication. Since that month ended, it has apparently been communicating, and sends good readings to the company. But the company cannot get those readings to be available on my account webpage, the published readings are approximately one third of the actual values. If that was what I was being charged on, that would be great, but that's not how it works. Why is it so difficult to transfer a value from one part of their system to another part of their system? I thought 'smart' meters were supposed to give us a clear view of our utility use, but it appears not. I can see (incorrect) values for whole weeks, but the last of those is June 1 to June 7.

Also, the readings displayed only show the difference between old and new readings, not the actual displayed values. This is surely not right, how can I check that the transmitted readings match what the meter says? I was always taught to write down actual readings and not interpretations of them, then later checks or calculations have the correct base information to work from.

These companies hate (tech) their staff even more than they hate their customers

Mine still hasn't phoned home, I located what I *think* is the Lora basestation on a streetlight a few streets away ...

I got emailed a statement by STW today, it shows two recent readings (it doesn't specifically state they are smart readings, rather than a person peering down the hole) but I suspect they're got the smart bit working at last, they've further cut my direct debit as a result.

The mishmash of debits and credits over the past few months (switching from RV to metered) makes an old BT phone bill look like an exercise in clarity ...

OMG, I don't believe it. Nothing could do that, surely? Instead of the

3-card trick, now the 5-card trick?
