OT. Amazon Prime???

It's yearly fee. I think $129.00 now.

Worth it if you buy a whole lot of crap from them. It gets you free next day shipping on most stuff, although that turned into 2 or 3 day shipping at times due to COVID.

You need to have a Firestick for your TV then you also get a bunch of extra shows for free. I had prime for about 3 years just started using the TV show part of it. A few good shows on there.

I guess the catch is it automatically renews every year unless you cancel it.

The monthly fee is the only drawback afaict, but I don't like paying for the right to buy, and I don't buy something every month, but they charge every month.

I think it also includes some music and movie videos, but I don't have enough time for what I've already got.

Normally I plan ahead and don't need anything quickly, but on a couple occasions I was in a hurry. Once I was living on a long trip and needed something. They always offer me a free 30 days of Prime, ship the items in two days. Then I cancel. But amazingly, they offer me again the free

And I'll give Amazon credit. One time I forgot to cancel before 30 days, cancelled about day 34, but since I hadn't used it in the 2nd month, they refunded that charge. I wouldn't count on that however.

I order stuff from Amazon but do not have prime and will not order anything there that requires shipping cost. Usually something that costs above $35 or so is shipped with no charge if you are willing to wait a couple of days.

There are stores like Walmart that will ship to you a low cost item for free if they do not have the item in the store. My wife ordered a space heater recently from them and it came the next day. She also got a couple of bottles of saccharine tablets in a few days.

Something you probably know and I'm sure you don't like. Free shipping if yuou buy over a certain amount, now $25. But when you're in checkout, the first put you at the $9 shipping fee and you have to notice and change to free. It usually takes one day longer to get it shipped for free, and I dont' even notice the extra day.

That's it.

Supposedly faster, free delivery, for a small monthly fee. I got a year of Prime as a promotion, I didn't pay for it. A couple of times they didn't meet their one day delivery goal, but at no time did I really care how long the package took to deliver. There are some other benefits besides faster delivery but I didn't care to use them.

Every time I go through checkout they put me on a screen where I have to turn down Prime. Considering all the other crap corporations do to push their stuff, it hardly seems worth mentioning.

What gets me is telemarketers. Most of them are scammers. Lately I've been targeted to get promo calls from Marriot. Whenever you check into a motel/hotel they ask for your home phone. I did not expect them to use it to call me at all hours of the day. I won't be going back.

So, advertisers are out of control. They're slowly taking over your TV screen. Right now, they've pretty much decided they need to have an ad on your TV the entire time you watch, not just during commercial breaks.

This stuff from Amazon seems minor in comparison.

The owner of the Washington Compost also owns Amazon.  What else would you expect from a lefty?

I don't consider $10 a month a "small monthly fee." That's $120 a year!

Unless you average over $10 monthly on Amazon shipping costs, you're just pissing money down the drain...

The Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Prime Music features are worth far more than $10/month, even leaving aside the shipping cost savings.

It is also valuable for cord cutters. Compared to a cable bill it is cheap, if you never bought anything. There is a lot of content on Prime. You don't really need a Firestick either. Most smart TVs will do Prime along with TiVo, and the other various streaming "sticks". An old PC (w/7 and up) connected to your TV will do all of those things (Prime, Hulu, Netflix etc) along with playing DVDs and any content you have spinning on a hard drive. We get our money's worth simply on the shipping tho. My wife buys lots of stuff online and I am starting to do it too. Usually you get it the next day if you have a warehouse near you.

Business is primarily about making money. It's mainly about trading goods and/or services for money. A businessman might gain satisfaction from building a successful business. What do politics have to do with it?

The monthly fee is the only real catch.

I have used the free trial a couple of times now to avoid paying for international shipping and set a reminder to cancel it before I start paying.

Certainly not worth the price of two 6 packs of beer a month.

I was told by an Amazon employee that their goal was to make most profit from their intangible goods. Prime is one of these.

From a business POV that is a good thing. I've had prime for a few years and got value from it. I don't watch the video as much so will reevaluate it next time. I do order from them a couple of times a month so it saves a few bucks.

If nothing else, watching Bosch was worth a few bucks. It was a good series.

Our new tv is already programmed to get Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, etc. No Firestick required.
