OT: Wrong pets?

If it's born on US soil it magically becomes a US citizen. 'US citizen' has always been a mystical category anyway. Until the current wave of PC crap you has a pretty good idea what an Englishman, Frenchman, German, etc looked like and what sort of cultural background they had. A US citizen can be anything vaguely human.

The concept worked for a couple of centuries when you could assume they were some sort of northern European and at least paid lip service to a branch of Christianity, plus the resident blacks of course.

How? Very easy to place them in your bin.

Our freecycle is quite limited, most are using Gumtree. A quick glance within only 15 miles of my house on Gumtree shows 61 listings. The first ones in the list are:

There is the smell of day-old dead cat.

In the UK we've invented something wonderful called the lid. After you've put something in your bin, you close the lid, then the smell remains inside. For added effect, put the cat in a plastic bag first.

Yeah, right. Feed them, clothe them, and fix them when they're broken. After all, you paid good money for them. Then you've got to keep an eye on them all the time.

George Washington was a slave owner and left the slaves to his wife Martha, to be freed on her death. She freed them immediately figuring her death wouldn't be too far off without a man to keep them in check.

First you have to discover you have a dead cat in some obscure cranny. This involves searching for whatever stinks so badly. Then you have to place them in the bin, a task that can be less than pleasant if they are a semi-liquid maggot farm.

They don't smell that bad after a day. Now after a week or ten days in August when you finally open the shed to get gas for the lawnmower...

Better than having to give them wages on top of that.

Does 'static caravan' mean it hasn't moved in 20 years and has no intention of doing so? I've got one of those in Arizona. It became a 'mobile home' when the county had the bright idea of a 50 cent a day on 'recreational vehicles' to build a baseball stadium.

According to Wikipedia, there is a limited gumtree presence in the US, mostly in the east coast cities and targeting British expats. As far as I'm concerned, a gum tree is something a kookaburra sits in although I'm not sure what either of those are.

Facebook is a chat medium, I've never got the point in selling things on it. It's just not set up right for that.

The smell stops fairly quickly and can be abated with deodorant/air freshener/bleach/etc.

Most of us realize how wrong it is to have slaves, but I wonder how we would feel if we were born 200 years ago when it was more common. If your father owned slaves, maybe your uncles did, would you think, sure, I'll get me a few too.

If you look at much of society, we do things the way our family did. My father owned Chevys so I'm getting a Chevy. My family had roast beef on Sunday so I will too, if you go to church, chances are it is the same one. Would you own slaves too? I'd like to think I'd break tradition, but I really don't know.
