Best buys at Lidl

'sok... I've just had a look at Tesco's website, where 240 tea bags vary from £1.98 to £4.09... do Lidl really sell the same for £1.25?

I bought 500g of ground coffee to stick through my Bialetti machine - it's quite nice. £1.99.

Still, u.f+d.m is somewhere over there...

That's only because they don't have a Waitrose or an M&S :-)

Not from what I've seen on a couple of visits to a Lidl maybe 6 months ago, their vegetables and fruit were of a very high quality, extremely cheap too as I think there was a half price offer on everything but even at full prices they would have been much cheaper than any of the big 4. By comparison a Sainsbury's we had the misfortune to be in last week had heaps of veg I would hesitate to feed to pigs and fruit going mouldy on the display immediately as you walked in through the door. Despite the advanced technology the checkout process was slower than arkwright on a bad day chewing a toffee apple telling me about his perfect peaches. The customer in front of us just dumped all their shopping and walked out - hilarious to watch!

The Aldi SDS drill has the UK phone number on the badge.

If it has a bar code there is a website from someone like the international bar code association which will tell who made it - although Lidl may have had it packed with their barcode.

True.

Equally, it doesn't seem to be a successful strategy to just pile stuff in stacks and boxes as far as the UK retail sector is concerned.

Presumably like B&Q's which just goes to a call centre able to tell you how to fit a drill bit or return the product for a refund....

Actually I don't moan about "rip off Britain". I simply buy outside the UK when appropriate. Very simple.

I don't have the time or interest to run around discount stores to buy bits and pieces here and there. The cost of time used to do that far exceeds the savings to be made on the products.

I don't accept poor service from any store, and have certainly done the same thing.

People were queuing outside Dixons and other places yesterday to buy Xboxes.

I think that a willingness to wait outside a shop for a so-called bargain has more to say about the people who do it than the store.

Matt, so you haven't rang one then.

Yes. Both.

I bought a selection of their fresh produce and own brand groceries.

Poor quality. No service. Not kept properly clean.

I doubt whether I will bother again.

Matt, we all expected a laughable response. We got one.

Other than the adulteration and blatant false advertising you mean?

They operate in an entirely different way to our major supermarkets,

Well yes, I suppose passing off inferior product at dumping prices is a way to reduce costs dramatically.
