Lidl Microscope - any good?

Dec 10, 2010 4 Replies

Hi All Lidl have a 'Bresser Biolux NV Microscope Set' coming up in their specials next week. I have a mild yen for a semi-decent microscope, and have occasionally toyed with buying an ex-lab one from eBay etc. But I do realise that sometimes old items are not the best choice ... and having a USB eyepiece is tempting. I know people here have recommended the Lidl binoculars in the the past - anyone with an opinion on their microscopes?

Thanks a lot jon N

Isn't the limiting factor the very low resolution web cam that is used in these USB connected microscopes and not the quality of the optics etc.?

Do Lidl state the resolution of the web cam used in the eyepiece. If they don't it's likely to be 100s of k pixel resolution rather than the

1 or 2M pixel resolutions found in the "better specified" very cheap usb microscopes.

Alan explained :

It doesn't say so, but other ads for the kit seem to specify 640x480 pixels for the camera.

Hi Alan

Possibly - but this isn't a USB microscope, it's a ('proper') microscope with a PC/USB eyepiece as an option. As I said, the USB feature is just a nice extra; I'm mostly interested in the quality of the base optics.

Thanks J^n

No experience of the microscope, but in general these sort of special offers at Lidl are exceptional value.
