Judging by what is in a typical laptop - a few dozen. That's why in modern systems the power management controller is a fairly sophisticated ASIC. Power management controllers will not only handle all the various power modes, they often handle lots of built in test capability and diagnostics, as well as sequenced switch on. So lots of feedback taps from either side of current sense resistors, and gated control of buck converters and so on.

Its already used in practice... as I mentioned before timed recording, OTT updates etc.

The high end Samsung stuff is anything but budget! Go look at some of their 4K OLED models...

You could measure the time taken for a point source to reach each of the capsules and calculate distance from that. If you really wanted to.

If I was making a mic array I would certainly be buying bits. What i charged for the system would depend on how much mugs would pay for it.

Although more secure than a WinDozey webcam the only sure way to prevent hacker webcam snooping is a physical cover over the lens. This is particularly true for government funded intelligence service hackers.

That is probably because it continues to power the mast head amplifier decode the signal even when it is nominally in standby! Had an early digital TV that had similarly profligate standby power usage running the decoder continuously for the SCART output to video recorder by default. It could be switched off but only after a long trawl through many levels of menus of twisty little passages all alike.

Worth testing which of your kit has acceptable standby power usage. It would also allow you to spot a TV "playing dead" but actually running the relatively power hungry signal processing subsystems.

True, human ears can detect about a 1usecond difference in arrival time for a single tone sound source by turning the head.

Sound travels at about 750 mph (variable on pressure, temperature and humidity). Thats about 13,200"/sec or 75 micro seconds / inch. Lets say the B format extends to 20 kHz, maxium resolution 50 us... You could get something but it would be rather vague. You probably need a resolution greater than a 1/10th the maximum Time of Arrival differnce to get meaningfull answers. 7 us = response up to about 150 kHz.

Spacing the capsules further apart would reduce the required timing resolution. Four mics at each corner of a 42" screen would give ToA differences up to a few milli seconds, far more manageable.

If you're talking echo cancellation at highish fequencies, the accuracy needed for that is rather high too. ;-)

I've had a brilliant idea. Why not just have your snoop mic array inside the TV remote? That is far more likely to be close to where people are talking in the room. ;-)
