Hi Theo I finally got around to making up ethernet cable ends today, and tried your method with my pass through RJ45 plugs. It seemed to go OK, and the cables test out with my little tester, so thanks for the advice. I hope I can get the assembly time for each plug down in future though!

FWIW I used my 'standard' crimp tool with these pass through plugs ... seemed to go OK, although I am never quite sure how well the 'cable grip' works. I had to manually trim the wire ends afterwards, with a combination of side cutters and a stanley knife.

That one worked for me too. I don't know what the box is but it is placed where rain can run down the connections and onto it, so I hope it is waterproof.

For things like making photos publicly viewable, I have got a free Dropbox account. I put the picture in the Dropbox folder on my computer which copies it to the cloud, and then I use "Copy Link" to get the cloud address which I can pass on.

The free service doesn't have all the bells and whistles that the paid-for Dropbox provides, but for the odd things I might want to share it is perfectly adequate and doesn't involve encryption.
