Re: Result!

It's great, saves loads of arse-ache and the mrs finds it handy being able to see a running total while crusing the aisles.

The only bugger is when they do a random rescan - you have to get everything out of the bags, have them scan it at the checkout, then repack. I had it happen 5 times in 6 visits at our local Sainsburys so I griped at the customer service bods and had them put me in the "not-a-thief" category. Problem solved.

The duty manager in Yiewsley tried to get me to use the self-serve scanners when they first put them in, "I'll even do the scanning for you!"

"No thanks. I walk with computers all the bloody day and half the night. When I go shopping I want to steer well clear of them."

Another explanation is that fat people are still eating fatty foods and not taking enough exercise.

Low fat foods are probably bought almost exclusively by slim people who don't want to get fat.

Actually I mean low GL, rather than low GI, but that's a more complicated discussion, especially when it also includes combination of different food groups and different times of the day.

If Harlow is anything to go by, they will move their stock toward the cheaper end of the market, put the aisles closer together, so they can hold more, cheaper lines then take all their checkout staff away. Probably wildly inaccurate, but that's what it *feels* like.

Look up the relationship between carbohydrate intake and triglyceride levels.

One of the reasons that the confused medical "profession" is now starting to look at the big picture is the realisation that the issues are much more complex than fat in diet equates to poor lipid profile. It can, but the more important point is that fats have a high calorie density. Put another way, one can eat a lot before achieving satiety. Equally one can eat a lot of low fat food in the belief that it doesn't have the harmful factors. Sadly it does.

I thought that it would probably be beyond your comprehension, which is why I didn't want to complicate matters.

I don't believe in snake oil. You patently do. That's one heck of a profile your building of yourself: a howling snob, who believes in something closer to dianetics than dietetics, makes sneers on the basis of presumed gender and ethnicity, and knows nothing on a topic that he pontificates freely on. Are you related to Firth, perchance?

I think that's a fair call.

Not to mention the cost of the computing power to run the show properly[1]. It's chicken and egg innit, until one of the big boys steps up and does it, the cost won't come down sufficiently but of course, the big boys are waiting for the cost to come down until they....

[1] Where properly is Back office, Supply chain tracking/replenishment, Smart shelves and checkout.

Look at my triglyceride levels if I eat fat. My triglycerides were in the 40's and I was already on a diet. I asked if the machine was broken and the consultant pulled my sample out of his desk and said no.. you can see the fat floating on the top of the other two layers.

But you need so little that it hardly matters, a fraction of a percent in most cases

FFS, no-one has claimed they were making money. In fact, most post acknowledge that they weren't, which is why it was good business sense to close those stores.

This is why they're making good profits now - closing unprofitable sites and opening up in new, profitable locations which better fit their (I'll say it slowly for you, as you're so hard of thinking)..... de_mo_gra_ph_ic....
