OT. No Camaros

Saw that in today's paper. I had a '69 Camaro and got maybe 20 years out of it.

My first car was a 1969 Roadrunner. Hurst 4 speed, 383 with a Carter carb, AM radio and no other options. It did have the beep, beep horn like on the cartoon.

This is bad for me. I was planning, in 2032, to buy a 2025 Camaro. Now that the Toyota Solara isn't made and some other cars are out of the question, the Camaro, the Mustang, and the Buick Cascada are iiuc the largest convertibles on the market. Longest wheel-base.

At least I have 9 years to plan.

Right now I have a Mustang convertible in my driveway. It is a loaner from the dealer that has my car until tomorrow. I guess I'm spoiled, I'd never buy a Mustang, IMO, it is the worst car I've driven in years.

Not so much sun in Maryland but many other things could be wrong with it.

My Camaro was automatic transmission, eight cylinder and radio with nothing else. My second new car. First was a '66 Chevelle also automatic. It got 16 mpg on all highway mileage.

Thinking back on car theft thread, when it got old you could have stolen my Camaro without needing a key. It would start on turning the key knob. A class mate had same cars but both were Super Sport models and both got stolen.

I didn't realize the Challenger was going away too. That was the only one of the three with any carrying capacity. I had a '73 Mustang and a '80 Camaro, both of which had room for a suitcase and a dead mouse in the trunk. I traded the '80 in for an '82 Firebird when it became a hatchback and had some cargo capacity.

when I open the doors, it feels as solid and stable as my rusty '64 Karmen Ghia convertible. The window shakes a bit.

Noise level is not what I'm accustomed to but that may be by design. In spite of the AC blowing cold air, my left side does not get comfortable no matter how I set the vents.

It does have some nifty electronics, various drive modes, including "drag race". Rear view camera sucks. On my car I can see and steer accurate, this one just does not look right and accurate.

My thoughts may be different if I was in my 20s and only has the typical cars I had at that age. In my 70s I drive a very nice car and now appreciate it even more.

Some people go very dark, even past legal but in the sun it really makes a difference. My car is at the dealer for an AC repair and even just putting the window down I can feel much warmer with the direct sun.

All these other things sound pretty bad, but drag race mode would more than make up for them. I can't wait.

Me too. What I'd like is a '65 Olds Cutlass with power everything, cruise, navigation, android auto, air bags, shoulder harness. They are just too hard to find.

I can see that. Yesterday was 60 here, and anything over 50 feels fairly warm to me, but it was cloudy and still felt cold. Once the sun came out, even 60 was warm.

Ah, Man! The first car that had my name on the title was a light banana yellow, 327 with 4 on the floor and a black racing stripe around the nose. That year was the only Camaro ever produced with wind wings. It was bought off the showroom floor for $3000, tax included and the only vehicle that I ever went 120 mph in.

One of our sons has a Mustang convertible as his weekend car and bought it used from a retired veteran who babied it and sold at a low price.

When I was in high school my friend had a '69 Roadrunner. At lunch time we went to 7-11 to buy some cigarettes. On the way back he said "Hold on!" and floored the accelerator. I got pushed back into the seat and tried to brace myself against the dash but couldn't overcome the inertial force!
