It really isn't aside from the death rate and problems people have in hospitals. I'd rather take precautions than possibly spend three months in a hospital or die.

When the post man handed me that tainted mask, I was not worried about the commie flu -- there are only about 20 cases in the entire county -- I was worried about the common cold and flu.

Both of those can make me pretty miserable, especially since I am self employed and have no sick leave. Colds and flues kill a lot of folks every year too, but we don't over react to either.

Ed,

Is your health bad at the moment? Cold, Flues, the Commie Flu only kill you if your health is bad?

Not when the amount is way over what is need to infect you and the barrier is N-zero, meaning it does not block anything.

Hmmmm. They do wear a lot better stuff than you can get your hands on. Oh and the glove up, wash their hands like crazy, and wear eye shields. Not to mention the air they breath goes through a high performance filter.

Your comparison to them is silly.

N-zero mean Z-E-R-O. N-O E-F-F-E-C-T

If you want to be a good member of a well functioning society you do your part to help others. While we do have some personal responsibility, civilized people look after each other for the greater good. Are you saying you don't want to participate?

My health is decent but at 74 I'd still rather avoid infection. Most everyone my age is at least borderline with something.

Any one of us can take precautions and STILL end up getting sick. Why hide under a desk in fear that something might make us sick?? Eating can do that to us... literally, almost anything we encounter every day has the same potential to kill us.

The problem with helping others is that there's a NEVER ending supply of people who need helping. At some point, you run out of money and energy to help anyone. People can help themselves more often than not, so helping others is about assisting, but not doing so in such a way as to prevent people from working to help themselves.

You just can't help everyone all the time. There's limits. Maybe you don't get that?
