Ethics and tools

Back in their heyday Montgomery Ward would replace defective PowerKraft tools. Would it be ethical to return a stripped out 1/2 drive ratchet for replacement knowing that there was a 6' piece of 1" pipe involved?

Torque wrenches are one of the common tools in auto parts dealers "loaners" program.

Really ! I've never heard of such a "loaner" service..

I _hate_ returning things in general - but my first torque wrench from Princess Auto < ~ Canada's Harbour Freight >

fell apart after 2 - 3 years of gentle use - 2 x per year changing 8 snow tires in the driveway .. the identical replacement wasn't any better so I got a gift card instead of a refund / replacement. ... but still the hassle of it all because of a really junky tool. I don't need Snap-On just a tool that does the job, please. John T.

Ethics or morality ? no matter Many people feel-no-guillt when they rip-off a big retailer . They wouldn't treat their neighbour that way and they would proudly proclaim to be an honest hard-working citizen .. Many years ago, I had my car speakers stolen and when I told my wise older brother about it - he pointed out that a lot of honest hard-working church-going people would buy them from a 5-finger-discount guy without a twinge of guilt .. I've always remembered that little lesson. John T.
