Hi, I have an internal, decorated plasterboard wall with poor studding: 120cm from its left end, there is a 22mm wide (i.e., as measured horizontally parallel to the wall) stud, then a 38mm stud (the two studs are spaced 60cm), then, after further 78cm, the jack stud of the door. I couldn't find other studs. I need to hang a ~2500 BTUs radiator (I have gas central heating), and I'd prefer to avoid both hanging on plasterboard and adding battens/noggins to fix the brackets (also because plasterboard seems to be less than 12mm deep, probably 9.5mm, sorry difficult to measure).

I think I would get as many fixings into a stud that you can, then just use sleeve anchors into the plasterboard for any remaining ones. Not quite sure how T brackets will help much, and they don't look like they have much strength. (they are designed for strengthening T joints on timber)

That is very poor studding, I have seen studs placed 60cm apart at my daughters new build but there they used 8? x 4? plasterboard that was 15mm thick which stiffened the walls very well.

In your situation I would definitely use on of the studs for one set of brackets and use heavy duty anchors in the PB for the others. At 27cm there is not going to be much weight or pull out forces exerted on the PB fittings. I have hung a much wider radiator in this manner and it never moved.

You are lucky - I have plasterboard walls with no studding - just a batten at floor and ceiling and then scraps of plasterboard dabbed between, to space the sheets

Sit the radiator on a couple of vertical lengths of 2x2 timber resting on the floor to take the considerable weight. Painted nicley, of course.

We don't know just what radiator the OP has but a vertical steel radiator that size and rating is typically about 30 kg including water. That spread across 4 brackets is not going to ask a lot of the shear loading on good quality hollow anchors. The risk of anchors pulling out of - or being forced into - the wall are another matter. But I don't see how legs help with those.

Thanks everyone! I opted for a very narrow vertical column radiator with feet. I'll attach it to the only decent stud I have, will keep posted.
