OT: VE day warplanes

I wrote, but forgot to edit correctly.

They become slaves as soon as an option that they can take is removed from them. (A nanny state does this.) I took the option to work as many hours as I could and put as much into my pension pot as fast as I could. Those that worked with me at that time now face retirement with a much reduced pension. Is this what you want to do to those that still have a final salary pension scheme?

Just about anything that takes away a freedom of choice.

What an utterly ludicrous statement.

In that case, everybody in the world is a slave.

I doubt very much if there is a single government anywhere in the world that has never legislated to take away options that people previously had.

But not having the option to work excessive hours does NOT make them slaves.

OK, if you are using the word "slaves" to mean something ridiculous, then you can term anybody you like as one.

I doubt very much if you could find even 0.1% of the population who would agree with you.

It may make them slaves to their wives and children.

[...repression...]

I'm not suggesting that ID cards necessarily destroy freedoms, just that they make them more difficult to defend.

Just like the Sept.11th perps all travelling on their own passports.

OK, well I tend to not wander far from paths and if I do keep to boundaries (hedges) but I like landscape photography and taking pictures of various transport.

TBH I would have not got in that situation, but if I had I think I would have legged it !!!!

They grow Cornish beef - very good quality meat, no crap fed to them and they have nice life

Not sure if anyone has answered this yet?

To avoid the problem you mention, the UK is divided into pressure regions. Two of those I fly in are "Cotswold" and "Barnsley". Everyone flying in these regions sets the "regional QNH" so that hopefully everyone is on the same setting. You will set the airfield QNH when nearby, and the QFE for the approach. These values are generally obtained from the ATIS by radio, or from Air Traffic Control.

Hope that helps?

I've just come back from a holiday in America where despite having the new machine readable passports both myself and wife had both our forefinger prints taken and our iris's pictures taken. No I have nothing personal against I.D. cards but why can't they be combined with driving licenses as they are in the U.S.A. and I object to having to pay for something the government wants to introduce.

Does everyone (I do mean absolutely eveyone) in the US have a driving licence?

Reply to

Why? Why a driving licence any more than a dog licence or a TV licence?

Those that do not can go to a driving test office and have a card issued that is exactly the same as a driving licence except that it does not permit the holder to drive a vehicle.

It does however serve as proof of identity, DOB, address etc.

More or less... although for those who do not drive it is a state ID card.

Supposedly. My last US driving licence has my name incorrectly spelt (nothing new there) and another current one from a different state does not show my photograph ('valid without photo').

Yeah. Saw a sample of it on Ch4's "Return of the Chef". Looked superb.

I think this is where farming has to go - specialist low volume very high quality produce. Just like most of our other industries in fact. A neighbour is trying to breed cows that produce good meat here but they all require to be kept indoors in winter which adds enormously to the cost and I don't think the result is up to Cornish or Angus standards. Perhaps one day ....

Those that don't carry the same card with "THIS IS NOT A DRIVING LICENSE" stamped across it.
