OT: USPS tracking

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago with a package sent from Germany. It was tracked while in Germany, but once it was in the hands of Royal Mail, there was no information available at all.

Maybe the Customs have it. If I recall, if this is the case, until they contact you they will not post any status, as if you were a crook and it said in the hands of customs, you would vanish the same day!

This happened to a friend when he imported some old laserdiscs from the states. He did eventually get them about three weeks later with an opened by hmrc sticker resealing the package. Brian

I did wonder about that, it's possible it will have duty to pay, though it claims to have VAT already paid.

I'd have expected any customs hold to happen before it departed london, needless to say no sign of the postie with it today.

I had a parcel from California turn up very quickly and a bill for customs charges arrive later. That was with one of the international carriers.

I've had that with a watch from New York, delivered by UPS, invoice for duty turned up weeks later, I genuinely lost the invoice and thought they'd chase for it later and I could pay then, but never heard another word from them again ...

And today the postie handed over a "to pay" card, for £14.87 of which £8 of course is the handling fee, and the gits don't even accept credit/debit cards.

ISTR paying by debit card via the phone or web site. That may have been Parcelforce though, and Heaven forbid PF and RM ever use anything remotely like the same system.

The postcard said I could pay online, or send them a postcard with £15 of stamps on it, then they'd release my parcel in two days, or I could visit the local sorting office, and pay in cash to collect it straight away.

When I got there they had a contactless payment terminal on the desk and did take plastic after all ...
