OT: Contactless card fraud?

If you have iphone, my android (not compatible)

I do not remember going anywhere where I have not used some card or other, travel card, license,bank card etc and to try and figure out which cards to take with me would be a nightmare.

You won't catch me with an iphone, both the above work on my android phone

Ah it's not pointless it's contactless that's why you can't use it if you're looking for a pointless system.

Dave's just making up silly reasons why you really have to carry your papers everywhere. He's a lefty, so believes that you belong to the State in your entirety and must carry State-issued proof of that.

Only time I carry a wallet is when I know I will need it. Otherwise, just carry the cards or whatever I know I'm likely to use in a pocket. I don't need a wallet when taking the dog out for a walk.

BTW, I'm not the one going on and on about the possibility of identity theft, or the difficulty in supplying identity, and all these illegals running around. It doesn't worry me. But the logical way to sort that would be some sort of identity card. Since not everyone will have a photo driver licence or passport.

I'm more surprised at those who think it some form of liberty infringement.

And neither am I. Given the choice between occasional identity theft and being beholden to some lard-arsed bureacrat to prove who I am, I'll take the ID theft.

So you are never asked to prove your identity? It's rare that I have to either.

But some it seems have been asked for their passport. Wouldn't an identity card be easier to carry - if needed?

Being required to carry an identity card at all times is a different issue.

Hell, yes, let's spend billions of taxpayers money on an intrusive and useless ID card scheme to save a few people a few minutes every 3 or 4 years. Typical Socialist thinking.

Are you assuming the same power/range as a commercial reader or modified reader with a higher power transmitter and a more sensitive receiver?

The last bank account I opened was done at at 4am over the internet, it was up and running at 1pm the next day, I think all I had to give them was my permission to use a credit reference agency, but that was it.

On the other hand, when I tried to open a business account with Barclays, who I've had my personal account with for 35+ years, they wanted two weeks for an appointment to see an adviser, and that was at a branch miles away, I would have had to wait longer if I wanted to see someone at my branch - I walked out and across the road to Santander and left with two functioning accounts, I had taken my passport with me, they took a copy of it, though I did already have an ISA with them.

Yes, you can do it at an ATM. I think it has to be at one of your banks ATM's though. I changed the pin on a NatWest card a few weeks ago, but via an RBS ATM - same outfit.

They have a couple of advantages - you have a better guarantee with a CC transaction and you get a good month before you have to pay the bill for what you have bought. In that month, your money can earn some interest.
