My wife spotted a small (£7.50) charge made on one of our cards by contactless payment at a place that we haven't been anywhere near. I phoned to bank to ask if they could be more precise about where the payment was taken. During my conversation it became clear that another payment of £5 had been made against one of our other accounts with the same bank on the same day. So, now we have two small debits made on two different cards made on the same day in a place we've not been to for at least 5 years. Bank is adamant that contactless cards can't be cloned and that someone must have physically used the cards. We're sure no one has and also wouldn't have used two different cards. Can anyone explain this? Bank is going through fraud procedures and will refund the payments and replace the cards but it does make me wonder about the security of the system. Tim

I, too, have had a charge on a credit card from somewhere I'd never visited. It turned out the the two places were under the same ownership and somehow their internal systems had used the wrong venue.

No, you can use ATMs belonging to other banks.

My debit card which is contactless has no pin it is a chip and signature card. the reason for this is the stupid idiots making the keypad devices ar slowly replacing them with ones with 'software' keys on a screen which blind people cannot use. Brian

otok out had as a condition the use of a "unique PIN" - I can't remember that many digits!

To be fair, you can buy a county-wide network West Midlands pass, but obviously it costs more than a NX West Midlands one....
