Is MK doing a Dyson?

The last two MK products I purchased were made in Malaysia (one being the Schuko socket mentioned in another thread). MK has always claimed to be a UK company supporting UK manufacturing. What is going on? Are they following the path of Mr Dyson in relocating to Malaysia, or is it simply of different production sites specialising in different components? I recognise that Schuko sockets will not be a big seller in the UK, nor will they be in Malaysia either.

Maybe Honeywell have decided to relocate manufacturing?

I'm aware it's a Honeywell company

It's possible they have decided to 'offshore' (as Hornby did) but I would have expected a fullscale relocation to cause controversy and to be newsworthy. Maybe they are like Portmeirion with production in Stoke and China, simply splitting production between the two sites. I wonder if anyone on the group knows?

I thought about emailing them but I expect they will say the information is commercially sensitive.

Honeywell (a US company) have been manufacturing all over the world for years, They even opened a factory in Scotland in the 1950s!

I don't know about now, but MK didn't used to make all their products by a long way. It could be that you are looking at a product they buy in to give them a complete range.

I was provided with safety helmet as part of my new PPE yesterday. Beautifully shiny it is, and impressively well made. "Centurion. Made in the EU" it says on it. And on closer inspection, "Made in Thetford, UK" Eee - that gave me a nice warm feeling!

They're still there beside the A8 Glasgow to Edinburgh road. One of those mysterious companies that intrigued me as a boy - "wonder what they do in there?" Industrial control and security systems nowadays, I believe.
