For many years I have used Windows Live Mail. However, I bought a new Acer laptop last week and have been unable to install it because MS no longer supports it. I tried to transfer it from my old computer but not having the .exe file in my Downloads folder I am stumped. Can anyone offer me guidance in this regard. I am computer literate but by no means an expert. My thanks in advance.

I was looking for an "outlook express" clone for windows 7 and 10 but you have to pay for it.....can't beat outlook express ......

A week or so ago I tried to install this download from majorgeeks on two different PCs: one with Windows 7 and one with Windows 10. But it failed to install, giving a fairly uninformative error message.
All I wanted it for was as a vehicle to read .eml files that had been made on another PC and use its "export to MS Exchange" menu to get the email messages into Outlook's .pst file. Outlook (incredibly) doesn't have its own "import from eml" option, nor can you drag and drop eml files into an Outlook mail folder because there is no converter present.
Eventually I had to download a paid-for program which can read eml files from a folder and generate a brand new pst file containing the messages in a mail folder. From there it is a simple matter to tell Outlook to open that data file in addition to the one it is already using, select all the messages and drag/drop them into the folder in the "real" pst file - then discard the temporary pst file.
It's all down to preference.
I use Thunderbird at home and Outlook at work, I prefer Thunderbird. If it wasn't available, I'd use Outlook happily enough.

I think one has to be careful as some downloads are just the stub loader and rely on the files being on Microsofts server which they are not. Given time I might be able to find a version with all files from before the removal. However to be honest I use Outlook Express now hacked to work on windows 10
7 etc, which I think cost about 20 Euros to register for three machines. Not official but the only problem I have found with it is that Microsoft trash it on a major update to windows 10. Other than that you can still use Thunderbird, and if not blind you can use many other clients like Outlook Express clasic and others which are look alikes but sadly don't work with my screenreader.The mail app in windows is usable but I don't think it does news.

The problem with Thunderbird is it uses different keys and hads just one big tree view which I find annoying just like Live mail. Why Microsoft and others removed identities is a complete mystery. its also a mystery why they went with ribbon menues which seem to most of us to be a cobbled together mess of bits of toolbars and dialogues all sho horned into to tree view. Outlook is not free though its apart of office though you can buy it stand alone. it is however a bit of a sledge hammer to crack a nut and I find it irritating. Brian
Web based interfaces mean that if you have several addresses with different providers you have to keep logging in and out of different sites and of course the format can be changed at will which is really irritating. Brian

yes you can't beat outlook express MS fecked up with live mail.......try OECLASSIC only thing is I don't see how to expand threads it just lists all messages as they come in ......don't see any + button they talk about .......perhaps you need the paid version for that....just wish OE would work on windows 7 and 10 .......

As a plain email client, it's just about OK.
But the Lightening Calendar add-in is pants with .hotmail accounts - can't seem to create entries on the server side (and therefore propagate them to a mobile client).
Haven't the *zilla foundation just dropped Thunderbird from their suite ? Which struck me as the most bizarre way forward, given that Outlook is - and always has been - the centrepiece of MS Office.
