PT for Windows. Would this be a red flag to you?

I wrote to the vendor to find out what model it is. If you click on the vendor name on the product page, in the upper right corner is a link to ask a question, which I never noticed and had to google to find.

For many years - from the time my eldest went off to college - I've been buying re-furb ThinkPad T-series laptops - with never a problem or complaint. The one time I bought a new laptop - for my youngest off-to-college - it was an Acer - on sale for ~ the same as a refurb ThinkPad. .. it started having problems at 13 months and she needed a replacement before her second year was done.

Here's just one example of a refurb seller in Toronto - presently no ThinkPad T but they come & go quickly - - prices are Canadian dollars - you do the math.

Wowpc turned out to be the refurbisher, so it's something they include.

the only new computer I ever bought was in 1884 a PC Jr, when that was iirc about the only one around at a low price, $1100 with 14 proof of purchas from Kimberly-Clark or some company like that. Unfortunately they stopped selling it 3 months later, but I was still able to use it and just it for almost 10 years, and I even remoted in to work a few times when I was on call (steel plant).

Then I bought an XT that was in pieces, then I "built", assembled my own, but didn't save any money afaik and since I dont' need anything special, like gaming, I haven't done that again.

Then used computers at hamfests, a little ACER to run XP bought on ebay I think. reconditioned by Amazon, two free ones from a friend whose business upgraded, and some I don't remember

I've had good luck with Acer, the little one that was my frist laptop, and the one I'm using now that's given me no trouble except the battery wore out about a month ago. New batter and everything is fine again.

I'm thinking this might be my last laptop and that refurbished ones won't have all the new bells and whistles. Plus I'm still living in thrifty mode. I have no children and no one but charities to leave my money to, and all the paid** staff of the charties live better than I do, so what am I saving my money for? Especially since we're only talking about an extra 300 to 400 dollars.

Good points. But also, there is not a single hit in Google for Acer Aspire Premium, except for the two ads that Amazon is selling , and those both come from this same rebuilder. I think he's just saying it's a premium model but he plans not to say what it is until it's delivered. It might even vary. Is it a serious red flag that he won't say up front what model it is? I wrote him. Amazon said they usually reply in two days.

I asked in the same place what sub-model is it, and it said" The product details indicate it is an Acer Aspire laptop with an AMD Ryzen 5 5500U processor, 64GB RAM, and 1TB SSD. This model is from Acer's Aspire line of budget laptops designed for everyday use.

So here they say it's budget but the seller calls it premium.

My current Acer is an Aspire E5-573, althought the sticker that is still on it calls it an E15. That's a strange seeming contradiction but it doesn't change that in my experience every Acer Aspire has a sub-model that is usually mentioned, especially in for-sale ads.

I've sold a lot of ACER ;laptops (and desktops too) as well as Lenovos. Dell and HP are two I DETEST. Asus isn't bad if you stay away from the bottom enf - which is also tru of ACER. If you buy on price you almost always end up paying too much - - - -

Personal preference... I like Lenovo Thinkpads. I use an old Thinkpad and a newer one every day for work, 6-7 days per week, often at remote locations. They are durable. They are easily repairable by me. Parts and diagrams are readily available. They have mouse buttons at the track pad and a little red cursor mover button. Acer does not have mouse buttons at the track pad or the mouse mover button. For those reasons I would never buy an Acer. An Acer might be ok for someone that sits at a desk all day, has an actual mouse, and never needs to take the laptop anywhere, but that is not for me.

All good, important things for me to know.

You're supposed to rock the whole thing, but I've never gotten good at it, especially when it's time to hold the mouse key down and move the cursor at the same time.

I have taken the current Acer to Europe twice, for a total of 5 months, and 3 weeks in Guatemala, but I never got used to a laptop keyboard, because the keys don't tell me clearly enough where my fingers are.

So I always carry a mouse and full-size keyboard. I lived half of those

I used to sleep in the passenger seat so the steering wheel wouldn't be in my way but it became too much trouble to move all the junk off that seat, pile it on the driver's seat, and move it back in the morning, so I tried the driver's seat and the wheel and the pedals didn't really get in my way. I would roll up some clothes and put them behind my neck, and use a shirt as a blanket To use the laptop, I would pile some clothes on the passenger seat so it was level. have the keyboard between my belly and the steering wheel, and use the mouse on my leg.

Now that I know about winkey + H, speech to text, this should be even easier.

When I started doing this I would put the seat back all the way (European seatbacks all seem to recline a lot) and I would look for a hill to park facing uphill so I would be as close to horizontal as possible. But as time went on, I stopped looking for a hill and only recline the seat one notch. I could sleep unti the dawn's early light, and later I learned how to sleep until 9, not let the sun wake me up.

I've done this 3 nights in the USA too.

I often have back pain from sleeping on my side, during the night and up to 20 minutes after I wake up, so at home, when I fall asleep in my desk chair it is the most restful I have, but I can't sleep more than an hour or two, and often can't fall sleep here at all. Similarly sitting up in bad. I don't know why I can sleep much longer in the car.
