Not totally true. It has to come out of the pocket at some point if you earn an income.

Yea, where does the money come from if not the working people.

For some reason it is thought that if the government pays for something, it is just money pulled out of thin air. Maybe it is in the US because we have trillions of dollars of debt.

Does everyone pay the NI fee that gets treatment ? That is I am sure there are some that do not work and are homeless or on some kind of welfare system. Do they get treatment ?

In the US we can get individual insurance, it is just a matter of what you want to pay for what coverage you get.

Yes, and that comes out of your pocket.

That is exactly what I do to. I pay for insurance and everything is covered. It is people that do not pay for insurance that can have problems.

The last time I saw the stat, 87% of the people on Obamacare got the government subsidy. That is why they like it. If you can't get the subsidy it is $1000 a month for a 60 something woman in Florida with a $6500 deductible before they pay a dime. Basically you pay $18,500 out of pocket each year to get any benefit at all.

Can you provide citations. I've search, but all I can find is an assertion that the DME bidding program saved taxpayers $42 billion dollars and claims, before the ACA was passed, that it would result in lost jobs.

As there doesn't appear to be a shortage of DME 12 years into ACA, those, if any, that did go out of business were likely those defrauding the system in the first place (like all those late-nite commercials for DME claiming "medicare will cover it").

cite?

Some, perhaps. Again, numbers are more useful than "most", "many" or "some" when drawing conclusions.

But they're covered, where before they would have paid all of it (or gone bankrupt).

No, that's not the case. It's far better than what came before it, and even the GOP after trying for 12 years hasn't been able to replace it with something better.

I doubt it was a conservative government when you got NHS passed.

I doubt that would cover it. I also question your 4% overhead when SS has the IRS doing their accounts receivables They have the HHS OIG and the FBI to do their fraud investigations. In spite of that they still have a horrendous fraud rate. SS has the "pay and chase" method of paying claims. None of that shows up in your 4%. You also have 100% of the workforce paying about 3% of their gross into the fund that provides some of the medical care (not all) to 16% of the population and Medicare is upside down. It has been for quite a while. When I say "some" of your medical care I mean. After you get your "free" part A (80% of hospital bills) you still need to buy part B, Part D and a "gap" policy to have somewhat complete coverage. With the end of Plan F, you are still going into your pocket. "Medicare for all" is still far from a panacea, even if we could afford it.

I can put you in touch with my son's accountant. He got out of the business and sold it to another for pennies. The guy that bought him out hoped he could make it with the additional patients. He closed shop a year later.

I can ask him for the numbers but there was a hefty cut in payments that was tough, but the second cut was the end for him and others.

Did you see this line? saved $168 on oxygen concentrators

Big saving when you were paying like $240. With the lower payment you have to buy a $4000 piece of equipment, give supplies, 24 hour service, etc.

That seems to be 12% of your gross pay.

Last time I was in Italy the owner of the villa we rented said he paid

15%.

Anecdotal.

I counter with this:

Yet others didn't close. So, what was it about their business that made them uncompetetive with others in the same business? Perhaps their business model relied on them overcharging medicare?

Rather than "doubt it", why don't you learn about it before expounding upon it?

You'll find, if you bother, that the original act in 1911 was part of the Liberal government agenda.

Responding to statements you snipped is borderline dishonest. Especially when you mis-state it. I made no claim about SS (by which I assume you are referring to Social Security program).

I was being conservative with the 4% number. It's actually 2%.

This is just plain f****ng ridiculous nonsense foisted on us by the republicans. Part A, B, C, D, E, F, G for people approaching the end of senescence - what the f*ck are the GOP thinking?

It should be just like every other civilized country in the world.

Walk in, get treated, go home, done.

Counter with whatever you want. I saw it and my wife was on oxygen so I got equipment from my son and bought another from another supplier. The ones left often no longer take medicare but sell directly to the patient instead.

Go ahead and accept the government propaganda, I saw it first hand from a couple of sides. No one near me would supply the equipment like they used to since we moved, fortunately I got top stuff at reasonable cost. My wife passed but still have it in case I ever need it.

My Toyota has a lever next to the driver's seat to pop the gas tank door. It eliminates the need for the locking gas caps that were popular when the price of gas increased to the point where stealing it was common. The baffles also eliminate that problem.

I was in Medicare but before ACA my cost for Part B and a supplemental was a wash compared to the company insurance plan. After ACA the company plan cost more for less, particularly the deductibles,

Affordable my ass. It was a gift to their donors in the health care industry from the Democrats.

With the Biden administration floating out a plan to tax capital gains the same as income some of those high rollers that got him elected might be having buyers' remorse. I'm filled with Schadenfreude.

When it saves money is when the guy without a helmet "lives" as a vegetable for another 40 years when a helmet could have prevented the brain injury. They don't alwoys work. A friend skidded over 100 feet on his helmet. The helmet didn't survive. Nor did he, but that's what happens when you wipe out on a Honda 750 at about 80 MPH. The guy he hit (pulled out in front of him on a Honda 90) ended up with his leg amputataed on-site. I'm not sure if he survived either.

Maybe in the UK they actually tax people who make a lot of money???
