OT: New time zones?

I assume German schools also start earlier. This is obvious and I can't believe you asked.

Yes, for some reason the current government doesn't like you taking about their past. PC nonsense.

Which was a successful improvisation.

And I used to work with Germans who brought their equipment to the UK where we have non-standard mains plugs. Most of them didn't ask me for adapters, they just jammed a screwdriver into our earth hole to open the sockets and pushed the EU plug in with some force. Worked fine. Sounds like improvisation to me.

So you'd condemn non-specialists to taking local jobs, instead of trying to improve their lot be seeking better jobs elsewhere?

No, I'm saying the Japanese way of having Mr Smith working at his job 5 miles away and Mr Jones working at his job 5 miles away, is better than them having each other's job 50 miles away.

Yes,they should STAY on one time*, although the half-hour offset would complicate things. I think standard time would be preferable.

Sounds like a good thing to do (the reflective stuff).

  • - it appears that a lot of people make the mistake of thinking that TIME itself has changed, rather than just the clocks.

No, no, and no. Health and softy is never a good idea. Keep that shit away! Look at this, would you work here? I'd refuse to enter the place.

SAFETY STARTS HERE on two big f****ng red signs at the entrance, more prominent than the name of the f****ng company. Fuck right off.

10-4 isn't equidistant, and isn't 8 hours. Was that supposed to be 8-4?

OCD shouldn't have anything to do with it. This is something out there, not of the mind.

Apparently, there is a difference (not that one) but it is semantic only. No difference in the actual time.

It actually varies a little, as Earth wobbles in its orbit.

Its not useless to me. It's part of the day.

Yes, much better that this DST nonsense.

Once a friend told be about a military base in Arizona, where they don't have DST. That works better. They just adapt to reality rather than playing mind games.

Sometimes I think we'd be safer if people weren't getting into driving and sex at the same time.

There is nothing out there. 6pm UTC and 6pm GMT are the same time.

Hence I said OCD.

I live 2 miles from an AFB in AZ. Don't have a clue about what they think about no DST. The biggest hassle for me is that some of my favorite TV programs move an hour forward or back 2 times a year...

You watch TV live in the 21st century?

Reply to

year...

Mostly cable channels that come from out of state. Local TV channels adjust times for the out of state network programs before broadcasting...

So you have to watch things when they decide to show them? How quaint.

Reply to
Commander Kinsey

Don't have to. Cable box will record them for later viewing if I want...

But you said the time zones confused you.

They've all changed. If you really need to know why, run for your country's presidency and win. This way you access to the archives, which may provide the answer you seek

Nope.

I said: "The biggest hassle for me [with no DST] is that some of my favorite TV programs move an hour forward or back 2 times a year"

My point was that having no DST is great for me if the biggest problem I have is that some of my TV programs change times. Apparently I was a little too vague for some...
