Router speed control with miter saw?

Hello all, I know that those speed controllers are okay for use with universal motors, but will they work with a miter saw. A friend of mine has a metal project and would like to install a ferrous blade in his saw but the RPM is too high. Will this work? TIA, Gene

If the motor has brushes, it's a universal motor. Will the HP rating of the router speed control handle the saw? Should work without any problems.
