Yale DIY alarms

Every couple of years sounds horribly pessimistic. My bell box, professionally installed (because my insurance company insists), has been there since 2009 and still has the original battery.

No personal experience, but I beleive Yale are DIY only, so when you see a Yale branded box, you know it's a DIY install.

I don't know if that means anything either way to a scrote though.

Just quoted for a job where the customer had priced up a Yale alarm but was unable to do it himself. I went through a friend of mine that runs his own alarm co and he refused to quote for the Yale as the batteries are not monitored.

I bought one about 2 years ago. Not one of my best decisions I'm sorry to say. If I could go back in time I'd find a better system. The instructions in particular were particularly bad bordering on incomprehensible, in fact, with a lot of stuff I needed to know omitted. There was DVD with some 'enhanced' instructions supposedly going into greater detail, but it was just as bad as the paper ones. About a fortnight ago, it started beeping every 30s or so and a yellow light came on that had not been lit before. I went to the hopelessly inadequate 'troubleshooting' section of the instructions to find out what the problem was. It said to press 'home arm' or some such button to get the fault code to come up but that did nothing other than set the alarm. I've emailed them for support, but got some auto reply saying they were sorry but re-organisation meant they were unable to assist me at that time. Heard nothing since. I'm not even sure the instructions that came with it were for the correct alarm. To cut a long story short: forget it!

Interesting. Where did you get this from? I have no such instructions in the package they sent me. It's too late to try it now, but I'll give it a whirl in the morning and report back then.

It's no friend of mine! But thanks for the pointers. I'll try 'em out later today. (I thought it stood for "For Your Information, Gormless" backwards. ;-)

Thanks for the advice folks. I'll probably go ahead, but:

1. avoid positioning the alarm boxes where they are difficult to access every couple of years
2. Take note of all warning beeps or make diary notes to change batts
3. Download and RTFM
