Now the transmitted Freeview TV guide is disfunctional, has anyone come
across a searchable on line version?

without having to trawl.

Same issue here. The RT thing is unbelievably annoying. Regularly plain wrong or switches to different settings. And if one of the broadcasters changes proigram times, they almost never catch up.
I have in the past searched for better listings sources.
I setup something similar to replace toppy. I use a network connected
dual tuner, controlled from Plex. You can browse the guide, and shedule
recordings of one show or the whole series. Spread over one or many
channels. etc. Seems to work well.

TV relies on data broadcast by the channels themselves. Limited

Funnily enough, we too have a fairly old Panasonic. The apps were always pretty poor, and until very recently our broadband was so slow we avoided anything to do with them.
Looked for a replacmeent TV recently and found nothing that was both significantly better and within our size range. Decided to stick with what we have got until it finally really does go belly up (not just threats that it makes from time to time).
We really don't want a 55" monster in our modest living room - would be very difficult to accommodate one.
