You can certainly create google accounts with non gmail addresses. Just chose the "use own address" option near the start of the process.

No, the fact is that some emails arrived after a delay. You can't extrapolate from that alone it was a deliberate act or a policy.

Having read it, it would not dissuade me from using a gmail account for Adam's requirement.

There are. I use a service that does this.

It depends on the content of the email. It's possible for spammers to send multiple copies of their s*it and not cc it to more than one victim.

Thanks for that. I assume you have edited out all the usual headers containing ARC or SPF or authentication lines added by Gmail.

If you mean the dotted variants, then no. All of them are automatically routed to the matching account, so there is no need to create one before use.
