I've had a message saying that the current version of EE+BT Email will be discontinued in their present form from the 7th September, and to download a new version from snipped-for-privacy@btinternet.com
Ever wary of scams, is this legit?

Certainly doesn't look like it. It should have come from BT itself rather than one of its customers, if indeed it has.
BT has always outsourced its email, and I believe it is not being offered to new customers now. That's generally a sign that they have had enough, but you should get a proper notification.
I had already moved this to my junk folder after seeing the link
