OT: The sooner we're out.....

"Government in europe needs to implement a 5 year plan to gradually reduce regulation, reduce the size of government, reduce government welfare, and lower taxes. Taxes are bad enough but the regulations are insane. For example, the EU has 1200 rules on the importation of bananas! Why? There are 10,000 civil servants in Brussels who need to justify their paychecks, so they sit around dreaming up new rules, regardless of how ridiculous they are, and the unelected EU commission is crazy enough to implement them. "

What you don't seem to realise is make any 'rule' and there are plenty who will spend all their time trying to find loopholes for their own gain.

Tax laws being a prime example.

Hacking into software - hence the constant updates to keep it secure, or to try to.

That is at least one reason why apparently complex rules exist for simple things.

.. reduce the state pension, reduce NHS spending on 'oldies' ??

That's already happening to those who are currently working.

The EU has one regulation for bananas (EU) No 1333/2011

One day it will be Andrew's turn. By then retirement age will be 75.

So the fewer loopholes/exceptions/allowances that exist, the better?

What's the largest country that's tried a flat-tax?

It's interesting you make an assertion, then immediately destroy it by the link you posted! Were you hoping no one would actually read that document? "One regulation" indeed! :-D

There is only one regulation. If you count the rules you will find that there are nothing like the number you said there are.

Stop repeating the lies Boris wrote when he was a DT journalist in Paris.

If the EU has 1200 rules on the importation of bananas then can you cite some of them? The first 50 or 100 will do.

The UK (with a population of about 60 million) has 330,000 civil servants.

The EU (with a population of about 500 million) has 24,000 civil servants.

Don't cry when you find out that most of what you quote about the EU is bollocks :-)

Don't be silly. Reduced spending only on others.

This is the thing.

When people go on and on about 'benefits not being sustainable' it usually bites them on the arse. Since an OAP (or retirement age) is neither here nor there to an MP.

In theory. But the IRL won't pay what's needed for decent accountants to keep them on top.

Dunno. But would only be fair if everyone was paid the same.

Nothing remotely like the number *you* said, either!

I've lived under the EU shit-show for 45+ years, mate. I don't need to read some dodgy article on an unknown website; I have first hand experience of being fleeced and f***ed-over!

Tax loopholes are put in place deliberately. Until you understand that you don't understand government.

There's nothing fair about the idler and the highly skilled & motivated getting paid the same.

I can live quite happily on half the state pension.

Thousands more have to survive on JSA which is less than half the state pension.

The simple fact is we have 20 million UK residents who are firmly hooked on the benefits teat, 12 million of them state pensioners who happily pay car, house and cat insurance until they expire, but for some reason expect to freeload off the NHS for 30 odd years, and those are the expensive years (to the tax payer).

Bully for you. Must be a very pikey area as that wouldn't rent you a shared bedsit in most places.
