In the main the UK no longer sells utility stuff on price.

It sells specialist stuff that few others supply. The people who want this specialist stuff are still going to want it, and most of them are going to carry on with the supply that they know.

We need to be selective about how we change tariffs and make agreements so that we can import from ROW more of things that we import already from Europe, but not the things that we are self sufficient in.

Outside the EU we can do that, inside the EU we can't (Not that I'm suggesting that's a reason for leaving, it's saying that the EU can retaliate by doing the reverse to us)

Easy, any country is free to have tariffs on stuff it produces itself and no tariff on what it does not produce. In fact that's what every country does. While part of the EU the UK has to have tariffs on some stuff that it does not produce that some other country in the EU does produce like bananas and wine.

Yup, and our fishermen are getting f***ed-over good and proper, too. We are one of the very few countries that respect EU directives on quotas and whatnot. The Spanish and the French (to name just two, the worst offenders) don't give a FF about the rules and are free to rob our seas blind. Not very equitable as I'm sure you'd agree.

Of course not. It requires lots of changes. Leaving the EU or not simply a red herring to the basic problems in this country. Which on balance will make things worse - not better. Despite so many being conned into thinking it is the basic reason this country has been doing badly for so long.

Very true. So let's just remove any controls on imports at all. So we benefit from cheap goods from anywhere. No problem paying for them - we just print more money.
