Mine does too. Maybe I am lucky but I am getting about 75 Mbps, which is perfectly adequate.
Thanks for all your help. The mystery now seems to be resolved.
I spoke to Zen this morning and it turns out I was using the wrong email password. I must have changed it and forgotten I had done so.
I have changed all the settings for all the accounts to mirror the Zen parameters. And you are right, 'My outgoing server requires authentication' was not ticked.
How I came to have settings that were apparently completely wrong (unless both versions can be used) may require to remain a mystery but at least I have learned a lot about ports. .
Thanks. As I said to Andy, the problem now seems to be solved.
Could it be that I was using insecure login and for some reason - either a Windows change or a policy change by the ISP - this practice has now become banned?
I get about 30Mbps, but then I am about 500m from the cabinet, with the final 50m or so by overhead telephone line. It's more than adequate for my needs.
I have some overhead too, from a telegraph pole at the bottom of the garden. I am quite surprised to be getting the speed I am, especially as the cabinet is in the street at the front and the pole is in a lane to the rear. .
Not exactly banned but they may have decided to no longer allow unsecured connections. Its a bit like the way much of the internet has now gone https from the old http system. I think so many now access email from mobile devices outside of their isps network that its become essential in order to protect themselves from the crooks pretending to be known people and other idiots. Somebody at Virgin told me about a year back that the majority of email traffic is in fact phishing spam or just adverts or junk, and I'm quite willing to believe it.
