New ASDA PAYG rates in September

We aren't discussing broadband, we are discussing a voice and text service.

Some have been saying that they dont spend anything like £5 pm on their mobile voice and text service.

I typically spend £2 pm.

But what do you spend on your landline voice service that you would be better off dumping and use your mobile for that instead ?

In the UK most people *can't dump their landline* because their broadband comes on it (VDSL or ADSL). The phone service is 'free'. The usage charges can be high on the mass market operators, but many people don't make a lot of phone calls these days, and sometimes helplines like calling their bank are freephone.

More technical people who do make calls (eg business users) may have gone VOIP and those calls are way cheaper than any mobile.

Well yes. IIRC Sipgate to sipgate calls are essentially free, but most people now will tend to use whatsapp or skype

Wasn't clear that that is what you are paying for JUST the voice calls service.

Use both, but those aren't as useful for incoming calls and texts and you get those with the £5 pm service and calls and texts too.

Pity about the fibre service.

You can't include the broadband when considering the total cost of voice calls and texts.

I pay £18 for broadband only, plus £2 roughly for PAYG voice calls and texts on my mobile.

With just DW and me in the house, we only use around 10-15GB of data per month. So, we could probably find a mobile package to provide what we need, without the landline. However, when younger members of the family come round, that rises dramatically to around 500GB of data per month. So, we need an unlimited broadband package, and landline is both cheaper and (probably) more reliable.

Yes, you do have that problem.

And that is completely irrelevant to what you are paying for voice and text communication.

Are you claiming that you have no landline or voip service at all ?

Problem is " you keep your account active by topping up by at least £10 every 120 days".

I rarely spend £10 in calls every 4 months.

Most mobile costs are decreasing. I have just swapped from a £6.85 package, same supplier, to a £6.00 package with more included data.

Had I just remained on the same package, the cost would have increased. It pays to change package and supplier regularly.

If you use it instead of the landline for calls, it becomes much more sensible and a cheaper alternative.

Are you being deliberately awkward? I have already said that we have a landline for the broadband. Call charges would be very high, so I use the mobile phone for calls.

And I have already said I use VOIP. That's what Skype and Whatsapp are for.

But, I have already said I pay roughly £2 per month for voice and text.
