I would have said very late 1980s or even early 1990s, as 1980s were still using Wylex rewireable boards domestically.

Possibly rust from from climbing plant support or cable clip nails?

The cables look too close to the hot pipes, and not properly clipped. Is the straggly metal wire a thermocuple or an earth? Apart from that looks neater than a lot I've seen.

Could easily be. I only identified as Proteus because of the label. I didn't look at the front face of the lid.

You probably didn't go for the cheapest possible though. I suspect a lot of price-sensitive work would still be using fuses. IIRC about 1994 a rewire used Proteus MCB/RCD and that was budget work, so fuses had fallen out of favour by then.

There is possibly more info on the label to the top right of the Proteus RCD label. Like you said it was a bit of a poor photo.

On the plus side as it is RCD main switch then there are no NE faults on the installation (assuming the RCD works). That would suggest that the electrics are in some sort of good working order.

Difficult to tell without seeing the whole context - but is there an under-floor heating zone? If so, it could be the gubbins controlling that.

I don't know why you'd need to narrow it down further. It's not compliant but close to.

That's what I thought.

Things were different in those days. TBH I went into the wholesalers asked them what I needed and they sold it to me. I paid with a cheque from my Dad's cheque book that I signed myself with no check guarantee card. The guy behind the counter phoned the local pub to check with the landlord that I was who I said I was.

I had my own chequebook at 15 - National Girobank age limit.

Good call. I went back to the vendor and asked what the UFH (if that) mixer was doing there. Response "No idea what a UFH mixer would look like, but we were told that there wasn't, but the bathroom has always felt like there was some. And my wife then told me she noticed the same when we looked round".
