Free electrical goods from Amazon!

It's a bit of a palaver, but what you do is:

Find an item that you want, but select one of the ones from a market place seller that has a non-fused 3 pin plug. One that is 'fulfilled by Amazon'.

When it arrives, call customer services and explain that it's illegal to sell this item, and it's a criminal offence.

They'll refund you and tell you to bin the item.

At last, you've got a use for one of those old 3 pin plugs you've been saving all these years!

All you need is one of Adams apprentices to wire it up for you :-)

"Big Clive" featured a Chinese string of festive lights recently with a convincing UK plug (well, apart from the shrouded earth pin). Problem was, the lights still worked with the fuse removed.

The worst chinese 13A plug that I've come across was one where the ends of the pins were not chamfered. Without the chamfer it's almost impossible to get the earth pin to lift the shutter in the socket and to get the electrical contacts apart easily. It was a plug more likely to physically damage what it was plugged into.

I visited the Finnish radio museum a few years ago, in the old transmitting hall under the main antenna of the Lahti long-wave transmitter. The flurorescent lights worked there without being plugged in.
