Amazon wrangle

Recently purchased a kit from an Amazon seller which had an important component missing. This has led to a long exchange with the supplier. At an earlier stage thee seller came up with the explanation that the missing component was posted separately, which considering the space available in the packaging received, seems unlikely. When I told them I was still waiting for the missing component to arrive, I was told that this part was no longer in production, which I thought was quite a coincidence.

The back and forth is still going on and my suggestion that the suppliers side of the story is stranger than fiction seems to have been met with the removal of the paragraph in their earlier official response that "the part had been posted separately".

Has anyone else on the newsgroup ever experienced the re-editing of Amazon's official communication system in this way?

Ayway, I asked to be compensated, to enable me to buy the part from another source. The seller now wants me to return the the kit to an (EBAY!) return centre in UK rather than China. I don't want to do that. I just want the missing part.

You've given the seller a chance to put it right, they've pissed you about, it's time to let amazon's system refund you (it'll likely be an AI you're dealing with, which is basically programmed to be on your side) then leave a review describing how it went ...

This reminds me: always take screenshots...

Good point. thanks. I did, but too late it seems.

Good advice. I'll follow it and see how it works out.

Return to UK address is a fairly standard way of 'proving' that you didn't just complain and keep the goods,

I did business with some dodgy gentlemen from Birmingham who placed an identical ad in Perth Scotland.

They declined to post or courier the goods and said I had to collect in person. I attempted to cancel the transaction but Ebay said the goods had already been dispatched.

They said they couldn't refund 'because Ebay wouldn't let them'. So I played Ebay's game, and sent the unrecieved goods back in an empty box using Ebays return note sticker and Ebay gave me my money back.

Same issue with faulty goods from Ali express, Sent them back to a UK centre and got a full refund/

I think the point I am making is that paypal, ebay, amazon,ali-express all favour a simple method to keep customers happy, Send it all back get a full refund.

Another instance. I got two RAACO cabinets - both arrived with broken drawers. So I filled one with all the unbroken drawers and sent the other back and got a full refund and bought another one with it

In today's online churn costed world, customer service does not mean sorting the customers problem out, it means removing any legal leg they have to stand on by refunding *everything*.

They are well prepared, the first option in the drop down list when I had to return a couple of items was "Counterfeit Item", spot on for me :-)
