No-one (well, not me), is denying that sea levels are rising. During the Mesolithic period, large areas of what is now the North Sea were dry land - known these days as Doggerland - but all flooded today, caused by sea level rise. There are stone walls - Bronze Age field boundaries - on the Isles of Scilly beyond Land's End, that run out into the sea. Sea levels are rising.
What is not true, and is just one of the many aspects of disinformation and alarmism put about by the AGW camp, is that the rise in sea levels is accelerating and many of the islands in the western Pacific are shortly going to be overwhelmed.
The port of Newlyn in west Cornwall is home for the internationally recognised UK fundamental benchmark for sea level measurements. The tide gauge data go back to 1915 and show a linear rise in sea levels over that period, with no acceleration.

Wise move. It could be so easy for them to try to pass the responsibility to you (and they often will).
Indicating you are not willing to take such (ignorant / ill informed / reckless) responsibility by getting them to sign a waiver / disclaimer also sometimes gets the point across.
And then you really need to test any emergency / backup plan to see how it's likely to work ITRW.
Quite a bit I would imagine. I set a mate up in one (I just did the IT stuff) and *everything* was charged (often handsomely). Like, £X/pp for use of the kitchen or the car park. It cost £50 to use the meetings room for 5 mins or 1hr. [1]
I'm sure there are many with vested interests in retaining the status quo doing that but I'm pretty sure they will fail. Pandemics are bigger than them (no matter how they think otherwise).

[1] At mates fully serviced office they would rent you access to the Internet (No of devices and bandwidth and data all limited / charged) and if you wanted to use their switches (all the rooms were flood wired), they would charge for that as well (£15/port/m).
The office was laid out with desk groups, each sharing an 8 port switch and I didn't fancy running cables round the office to connect them all together. So I asked if it would cost anything to make use of the flood wired cabling and the patch panel, prompted with the idea that wouldn't require any running cost (electricity, kit use / depreciation) and those cables wouldn't be used by anyone else as they only came into that office. They agreed they would be free so I requested they patched port pairs together so that I could effectively interconnect the desk islands together. They didn't understand so requested I went with them into the comms room and did it myself. ;-)
So, the Internet was provisioned (say) floor box port 1 and went to the WAN port of our WiFi router (they provided serviced WiFi but charged for it on top of course).
LAN port 1 on our router went to floor port 11 and down to their patch panel, 12 was patched to 20 and that came up on the next desk island and into that switch. Out of that switch and into floor port 21, down to their patch, 21 patched to 30 and back up to the third desk group / switch via floor port 30. It ran perfectly fine like that for over two years and the *ONLY* time any of the networking failed was after one of them regularly trod on the floor port / cable and damaged it (trying to get a better look at all the 'totty' coming out of the other offices at the end of the day).
The comms room was only in the basement and mate's office was on the ground floor so the net cable run lengths weren't an issue.
I really hope they go out of business because of Covid and WFH, the greedy bastards (mate moved out long before).

That's where 90% of BCP/DR fails.
One outfit I worked for used to used a fire drill to trigger an evacuation, and then when staff were out they were redeployed as if it had been a real building closure. For most that meant hiking to the nearby retail building to take phone calls.
The outfit that refused to factor in the offsite premises being unavailable used to brag *very* loudly in the group about how "low cost" they were. "Low cost" being a synonym for "absolutely no flexibility whatsoever". No R&D. No overtime. No budget for testing kit or systems. Squeeze it all out to look super duper efficient. And then just wait for that day.

Oh quite. Raw data on sea levels as measured by tidal gauges shows relative movement. There is a tidal gauge on the coast of Sweden somewhere at the southern end of the Baltic which is actually recording falling sea levels because the land is rising faster than the sea, due to isostatic recovery after the ice age. But corrections are applied to the raw data to account for that (don't ask me how!).
I believe the East coast is slowly sinking, which will encourage coastal erosion. But erosion along that coast is very variable. A lot depends on the sea floor topography just off-shore, and whether there is a supply of sediment from further up the coast. When local coastal defences are put in to reduce erosion, the effect can be to increase erosion further down the coast. Some parts of the east coast are actually accreting at quite a rapid rate. Andrew's statement that the erosion is increasing in parts of the east coast may be correct in specific places but it cannot be used as evidence that rise in sea levels is accelerating, because it is not general and depends on many factors.

Sounds familiar.
Yup. Mate was in charge of a small (Tier 4?) data centre where any purchase request for new / replacement kit (EOL hard drives etc) would be signed off by his boss, ordered and fitted.
Then they were taken over by a bigger Co who had a 'Purchasing Dept' and everything took ages.
He noticed the batteries in the UPS's were down to be replaced in 3 months so raised the relevant paperwork.
3.5 months later they had as major power outage so everything initially fell back to the first, then second layer UPS's to give till the generator kicked in (that took a couple of mins).
10 seconds after the power failure the first UPS's died, 10s later so did the seconds ... and the genny wasn't yet online.
So, not only did they then have to fix all the issues created by the power loss like corrupted drives and damaged hardware, but had to contact all the customers to see if they wanted their servers on or off (his boss was about to run round and turn *everything* on till mate explained the idea of live and development systems and so why having both on at the same time might not be a good idea.

I saw an article yesterday, raising all of the points about whether container ships are too big. The only one missed so far, is the properties of the water flow in the Canal, as a boat the size of that one goes by.
I could also find a web page with general advice for what ships masters are supposed to be doing while plying their course. And it looks like a physics or engineering degree, including the ability of the master to do the calculations
*by hand*, if there is a computer failure. If the automation fails, the master may have to make decisions, adjust ballast or whatever, with nothing but portable computing resources. That's in case the bridge loses power, but some of the other system (roll correction) are still running. If sufficient automation fails, and there's weather about, the ship can be in real trouble.
A measure of how bad the large ships are, is the number of containers swept off at sea. That's used as a metric of "goodness" for monster shipping.
In that stretch of water, there would be two people "driving the boat". The pilot specifies local conditions (max velocity, stop and go), while the master attempts to maintain stability and maneuvering. And the master would be sorely tested by a high wind, because there's no room for error. If you were at sea, you could steer into the wind, taking the load off the gear that tips it upright.
As for the dredging, it's up to the Authority to decide what size ships to accept on a given day. If they lose millions because of bad facility management, they will have to factor that in the next time. You can't dredge the channel out entirely, depending on how the banks of the canal are constructed. There were no signs of a particularly ridged structure, where it ran aground and the bulb hit the bank. Maybe there is a slope stability criterion next to the bank.

One of the things that frustrated Dad towards the end of his life (ex ships Master running Shell tankers, often up / down the Suez Canal) was (if memory serves) the dropping of the old skool navigation from the latest tickets with the reason being with ever bigger ships taking longer to stop or turn and busier waterways, a mere human wouldn't be sufficient to do what it takes, should all the automation fail in any case?
By the time you have seen the other ship on a collision course though yer binoculars it was a done deal. ;-(

You obviously know something about boats, so a couple of points:
When a prop is running it spits out water backwards, but also partly outwards. But outwards from the prop tips. Which means that some of it from one side of the prop hits the hull and is stopped.
There's **** all difference in the density between water at sea level and 20 metres down. There's even less across the diameter of a prop. It's effectively incompressible, like almost all liquids.
The reversing problem has already been addressed elsewhere in the thread.

No, it's normally associated with the movement of water above the propeller on the hull.
Because steerage from a rudder is dependent on a jet of water coming from the prop onto the rudder. In reverse there is very little flow over the rudder, and my experience in smaller vessels is that prop walk is more significant unless you can get sufficient reverse speed.

Indeed, pushing the hull over that way. I mixed that up with something else when I mentioned that.
On the hydroplanes we used to watch racing on Oulton Broad the prop on a very high revving 2/ (behind the hull) and because of the pitch therefore rpm required to keep the engine running therefore the minimum speed needed when the prop started biting, they used to start the engine with the stern of the boat up on trestles and the prop in the air. Once started and warmed a bit they would give it a good bunch of revs before lifting the stern off the trestles and dropping it forward into the water. As the prop hit and start cavitation you could see the stern walk sideways briefly and then hope it could get going fast enough quick enough to stop the engine stalling. If it did stall they would have to quickly paddle back to repeat the starting process.

Satellite survey data. The various flavours of GNSS (GPS, GLONAS and Galileo among others) all reference the centre of the earth as the origin point in their co-ordinate systems.
The altitude readings are calculated against regional geodesic models (geosoids?) typically offset from MSL such as where I'm located about 125 feet ASL, the GPS altitude reading is around 98 metres above the W84 geosoid datum reference, almost 200 feet higher than the ASL figure shown on the OS map of our area!
I'm fairly certain that commercial civilian use GPS navigation units translate this raw altitude data into an ASL based figure. I'm using a u- Blox M8T receiver module for time and frequency purposes in a static location (GPSDO) so have only seen the raw W84 based altitude figures which are (now!) of zero concern in my usage case.
The discrepancy between ASL and GPS altitude figures puzzled me when I first tried sanity checking the GPS figure until I read up a little more on the subject. I now have a level of knowledge and interest in the subject such that the majority of normal users would, quite understandably, describe as being an unhealthy one.
