I think the same restrictions would apply to a land or barge based crane too. And it would be a big job to build a dockyard crane next to it.

Indeed. Although they can take a fair bit of that, as it can happen at sea due to being on two waves at once (Sagging) or a single wave (Hogging).

That's 20,000 TEU - which is what most people would consider half-length containers, so 10,000 full-sized ones. Still a hell of a lot though!

even this might not be big enough (used to remove the container ship RENA from a reef off the Bay of Plenty in the South Island of New Zealand about 10 years ago).
Build temporary dams either side, replace water with Mercury (!!). Float ship straight. Remove mercury (!!!!!), Reflood with water.

I think it would be sufficient to add a great deal of salt. Certainly
10s of thousands of tons to make any different to a ship of that weight.
That would be useless for removing the containers, nowhere near high enough.
