More alarmist nonsense. Several recent studies comparing aerial photographs from several decades ago with more recent ones, have shown that many of the low-lying islands in the Western Pacific are actually growing. Sea levels may be rising (albeit very slowly and certainly no faster than in the past), but the coral grows with it.

If anything, sea level rise should surely be maximum at the equator, due to the Earth's rotation causing a bulge.
Civilian nuclear power was a great excuse to hide the manufacture of weaponised nuclear material.
Which I have no problem with.
What seems bit s*it is that we appear to have now ditched the nuclear power aspect while still ramping up the military.
Incidentally, all very well for Big Balls Boris to bounce the build up in nuclear bombs, but has the world wide capability for the plutonium needed been drastically curtailed ?

I was interested to check out how they dealt with all the narrow bits (considering from the footage we have seen on TV that it was unlikely that two ships the size of Ever Green could pass in that narrow a canal) and apparently they run regular 'sailings' in each direction over the day.
So I assume there would be a relatively low speed limit (meaning all vessels would be likely to keep up, not causing further delays to those behind them) and to minimise the risk of any damage to the bank from wash?
I wonder how they manage the flow though? A set of traffic lights at each end, like on roadworks or simply the timetable and trusting everone follows the rules (must be tempting to jump on the end of the queue as the last (official) ship sets off, just as people do past temporary roadwork lights). ;-)

The problem is that it is complex. The ArtStudent thinking of the GlobalWarmunists is that the sea gets warm expands and floods places.
However the sea is a f****ng big place and its within a degree of freezing a few hundred meters down and that doesn't change. And tropical heat input is moderated by tropical thunderstorms. It the sea gets to
27C it 'boils' off vapour, which rises (past the CO2) to a decent 10-20,000 ft altitude, dumps it's heat to space, freezes and comes back down as rain.The other ArtStudent thought is that 'all the ice will melt'. Which would cause a bit of sea level rise if land based ice - typically Greenland or Antarctica - showed massive ice loss.
But neither are, and in fact the same issues apply - there is a f*ck of a lot of ice that will need hundreds or thousands of years of higher temperatures, to melt.
Of course here and there the odd volcano or random weather pattern causes a bit to melt one year, and its hailed as 'proof' until it freezes the next year.
Guess why 'ice free Arctic' stories have stopped? Arctic is still below par, but the ice has stopped shrinking.
The more real science that is done on climate the more the evidence piles up that whilst climate is a massively complex, probably chaotic and highly interconnected system whose natural state is change, CO2 has less than the square root of Sweet Fanny Adams to do with any of it.
Global Warming was a massively convenient lie. Used to bend energy policy towards state - and hence oligarchic - control.
Wiki (?) on the incident notes that not much effort has gone into researching the behaviour of such super size vessels in confined spaces. Suggesting there's possible an effect which pulls such vessels off course in canals.
All the modelling get done to improve open water fuel efficiency.

Mind you I wonder how many logistics companies had "Suez canal blocked for 5 days" in their plans ? I'd bet very few.
Thanks for that Colin, I had the 'convoy' bit I didn't imagine it would be so 'simple', like the opening times of the local shop, but it makes sense that it could / should be. ;-)
I know they use(ed?) a token system on single track railway lines and there may well be something for long tunnels and narrow boats, even those the alternation wouldn't be so predictable so not sure how a token system could work (buy convoys could of course).

Even if they didn't officially, I'm sure most of the engineering / financial types would have had it in their minds, especially seeing these vessels getting bigger and bigger (Even Given being longer than the canal is wide at that point, ignoring not all of it is of suitable navigable depth for something like the Ever Given).
You are probably right. I'm sure they would have all have a generic 'what if' total loss / recovery but not that particular event.
I'm sure they would have learned a lot from this though and may now be (if they have discovered they aren't already sufficiently covered) considering the implementation of better solutions to any of it.
Like, they may start more dredging or if the canal design doesn't allow for that, position additional dredgers / tugs around the most vulnerable points (like around roadworks on motorways).
I think they learned that a big dredger (that would work quickly) might not be able to get near enough for that sort of 'recovery', (rather than straight 'dredging') work, so maybe a specialised / adapted vessel would be needed or a combination of large / small?
As mentioned elsewhere, it's a shame Dad isn't still here as he could have given me / us a personal insight of it all (well, as it was in the 1950's) and I know he transited the canal many times in Shell tankers.
