I think we agree that there is stupid (or at least risky) behavior involved, but we probably disagree on what the stupid behavior is. I would say the stupid behavior is allowing these kinds of devices to exist in one's home.

There are a few problems with your approach.

- There are endless reports of these devices turning on without actually hearing their trigger word. Amazon acknowledges the issue and says they are working on a software update.

- Since it doesn't always take a trigger word to turn them on, you're reduced to staring at the device continuously so that you know when it has turned itself on. Staring at the device is not something that most people want to do.

- There are reports that the devices record without any indication, i.e., no blue light or any other indication that the device is awake. That's easy to understand, as the blue light is controlled by software and not a hard switch of any kind.
