I was talking on the phone with my cousin today. She has worked as asubstitute teacher in several schools. She is between jobs. One ofthe things she mentioned was that they require her to furnish her SSNon job applications. Since the wrong person could do some seriousdamage with your SSN, I really think it is a bad idea to have tofurnish them for a job application.I went online tonight to put a hold on a book at the library. Thelibrary is using the first 4 numbers of my SSN in their "primaryidentification" field.That seems like a violation of security to me.

I did at one time. The campus check cashing service required it (it was also the student ID number).

They also need it for pre-employment screening and such.

No, it is *completely* different. Employers don't print it on your business cards.
