We didn't have an "advanced stream" as such. The first year of high school, everybody took pretty much the same classes. We started sorting ourselves after that by choosing more difficult academics or business classes or shop classes. But that first year, it seems like I saw a fair amount of stoners and burnouts sitting at the back of the room.
There wasn't a foreign language requirement, but those of us who aspired to go to college all took two years of one. Mostly Spanish, some French, and a few (including me) took the newly introduced German classes. I'm sure next to none of us remember jack about those languages. I certainly don't. Except I can tell that the subtitles in Eurotrip are not 100% accurate.
