OT Going backwards on youtube ads.

OT Why is it when y ou watch Youtube, you can press the left arrow to go back a little bit, and you can click on the progress bar to go back farther, but during a commericial, you can't go back. I would think they would be happy if you wanted to watch part of the commercial a second time. It means you're interested in it, instead of just waiting until it's over. Yet they went to the trouble to disable that.

What's with them. Is there any reasonable reason why they won't let you watch it again?

I never see the commercials. I use Ad Blocker.

+1 With Ad Block Plus and Privacy Badger both engaged, I never see commercials either, although I sometimes have to disengage Privacy Badger if the web site is using certain tracking cookies to implement features. Afterwards, I reengage Privacy Badger and then clear all 3rd party cookies prior to continue using the browser at other sites.

Okay, let me shift the emphasis (or emphasize the emphasis). From the pov of youtube, which deals with many people, not all of whom have ad-blockers, why would they make it so that you can go backwards on the video you're trying to watch, BUT NOT IN AN ADVERTISEMENT THEY WANT YOU TO WATCH. It may help if you all imagine that for one week you didn't have an ad-blocker. Why don't they let you rewind ads, likely the ads you are most interested in and the ads for things you are most likely to buy.

The app is coded to prevent anything other than pause during mandatory commercials. Youtube doesn't actually care if you watch the commercial, they just want to be able to tell the advertiser that the commercial played in its entirety.

[snip]

I don't see any of YouTube's ads, since I installed uBlock Origin. There are still some ads the video creators put in.

If you watch much, you're likely to see the same commercial a few dozen times more. There's no need to add to that.

If would be even worse if they disabled pause, like some streaming systems do. If someone comes to the door, you have to mute the sound and hope you don't miss any content.

I got that. Why? They could prevent fast forward while allowing reverse. They could prevent clicking to the right of the progress dot while allowing clicking to the left of it.

Most advertisements are only played for 5 seconds or whenever Skip comes up. I'm sure they record which ones are played longer, and how long, and how often they are played to the end.

If Youtube isn't looking out for the interests of its advertisers, by not allowing rewind, then why are the advertisers not telling youtube they want to enable reverse? Has no one who cares or has any responsibility for sales noticed that it cannot go backwards?

I'm not the first to ask about this.

I haven't read this stuff yet, except that the suggestion writing that feature would take too much time and later maintenance is ridiculous.

I haven't found that to be the case.

I agree with that.

Yes, I know. Why?

But what do the advetisers caree about?
