Microsoft eliminates Chrome

Just yesterday, some webpage told me I couldn't use Firefox and I think it told me to use Chrome!

and it didn't just display the page poorly in firefox; it went to a entire message page that told me not to use it. So I went back to google and found another source.

when I clicked on Chrome's About, it started to update:

Updating Chrome (66%) Version 121.0.6167.160 (Official Build) (64-bit)

We'll see if it still works when it's done!

Here is the interesting sample page I looked at to test it:

Chrome (and Edge) are nasty spyware. You become the product, not the customer.

Switch to Brave Browser. It uses the "Blink" rendering engine, same as Chrome and Edge. And unlike chrome, it has built in ad blocking and does not spy on your ass. It is also considered "Grandparent Safe".

At the end of installation, it will give you the option of importing your Chrome settings.

I prefer Firefox. Not sure about Brave but think it was an outgrowth and Firefox respects privacy. Also sync desktop with laptop. You bookmark either place and it copies to other.

I finally found out what was hoding up my reinstalling Chrome. Program manager said some programs were running so I quit them and reinstalled Chrome and all seems well now. Still not sure why it stopped in the first place.

When I click on the icon to run chrome nothing hapens.

I noticed that when I used Edge to download Chrome to reinstall it. It would be nice if the programs would ask first before doing things.

I have had reports from friends how when Windows update it cases problems and even moves their Icons around on the screen. Sofar I have not had any problems with the uploads on Win 10 or Win 11.

O do not know about the other systems but I like the way Chrome puts the information on other computers I have so that they all look the same as I use 3 or 4 computers around the house and laptop.

I had to reinstall windows on the desktop and it put all my desktop icons in alphabetical order. I can't remember how they used to be.

I use Firefox as my primary browser. For pages that don't render properly (or at all) on Firefox, I use Opera - which is based on Chrome but is less intrusive. On occasion, I use the DuckDuckGo browser after first activating the Proton VPN, especially if I'm concerned that I'm navigating to a sketchy web site.

Did the path change? I've seen cases where a desktop shortcut no longer points to the executable.

If FF works for you. Most other browsers, including Edge and Brave, are chromium based. FF was sort of drifting around, losing market share, and not keeping up so it can have problems rendering some web sites.

Brave was started by Brendan Eich one of the original Mozilla founders. He was CTO/CEO of Mozilla until they forced him out because he donated to Proposition 8 in California that would have banned same sex marriage. Brave was a little strange in the early days but today it is very privacy oriented.

The path did no change and I even tried to run it from the file explorer/ When I double clicked on the file name nothing hapened.

One strange thing when I called up the place that lists programs to delete it listed Chrome but not how much disk space it was taking up where the other files listed how much disk space they used. Then it told me I could not delete it as it was being used. Found some parts of it in Disk Manager and deleated those and it let me delete Chrome. From there I down loaded Chrome and all was well again including the bookmarks.
