Can you still stop a car by turning off the ignition

We'd better let Ed P have the last word on that one. I thought his comment was right on. Not long ago I had asked why a thread not related to home repair was on this group. Then I went ahead and contributed to another thread that's peripheral at best to home repair (escaping from a moving car while being kidnapped). Your (Micky) reply that it has to do with cars is cute, but doesn't convince me. To me, that thread has to do with crime, personal safety, etc. After all, what part or system in a car is being repaired in the scenario of turning off the ignition while the car is in motion?

Stop broadcasting your ignorance. Amarone wines are not swill to be sold in jugs or cardboard boxes. In fact, many are considerably more expensive than regional "table" wines.

In my experience, and I like Opera, their VPN doesn't work. When I activate it and navigate to any one of several web sites that claim to determine where I'm located, every one of those sites tells me where I really am. Obviously it is not masking my actual IP address. However, if I turn on a third party VPN and then go to those same web sites using Opera, none of them report my true location.

People that repair their own houses also likely repair their own cars. AFAIN, there is no active car repair group, and if there were, the same people would be in both.

I have not this experience. The VPN works fine for me. Choose something in Europe as your location.

Agreed. But there is an alt.autos group.

I just sampled the most recent 100 posts in alt autos and it's pretty much a dead zone - crickets .. John T.

Question: How do you tell the quality of wine.

By the shape of the box.

When I was working, I used to have a box of wine in the fridge. Some lunches just called for a glass of wine so we would indulge. Bota Box was decent for lunch.

I have a rather sophisticated palette too. I can tell a red from a white.

Ar any given time, I have 40 to 50 bottles of wine on hand. I enjoy it with dinner.

Wild Irish Rose from Silver Satin?

Tried it today on my 2014 Sorento -- driving down the road and pressed the start button for about 5 seconds and the engine shut down

- electric power steering continued to function. Shifted to neutral, pressed start button while lightly pressing brake and the car restarted with no problems.

That's because so many dump their thoughts into alt.home.repair regardless of topic.

Do you consider the monthly statistics to be off topic?

I think your logic is faulty. And complaints about off-topic, here, in 2025, are moot. John T.

Yes. I believe that they are irrelevant. All who post here would continue to do so regardless of the statistics.

They are pertinent to the group itself. They give a snapshot of what topics have been discussed and which members are active. If a topic is especially active or has a subject of interest someone can search it out and learn something from it. I'd guess not every member here reads every single post that comes in.

Your response is irrelevant ;)

Irrelevant? I was asked a question and answered it. Your response is obnoxious.

I don't do shopping when I'm out of the country**. I've only been geoblocked when wanting to watch a video from a service that was free if I have a library card where I live, and a station on Tune-in. It was worth getting a VPN for that, but I cancelled it when I got home.

**Well, once I tried to find out if it was easy to buy adult diapers in a small country I was going to visit. I ended up staying home for 7 weeks until I didn't need them anymore.
