On Topic: Long life incandescent bulbs?

What wattage and how long is long? I've seen some 25W rated for 2500 hours.

This is a 60W rated for 5000 hours

I just found out that the satco's are rated at 2500 hrs. Their box says 2.3 years at 3 hrs / day.

Double or triple that number would be great.

Would using a dimmer switch to lower the brightness extend the bulb life?

Or two bulbs in series?

When we bought this house 50 years ago builder had installed "super bulbs" which contain krypton rather than argon. I still have a few of these bulbs in lesser used fixtures. Do not know if still made but they cost at least twice as much as regular bulbs.

I've just had one of my indoor garage LEDs fail - after just 4 or 5 years of very interrmittent use. It's the large screw-in style and cost me about $ 35. if I remember correctly. Prior to these LEDs I would get about 5 years from a farm-use incandescent bulb. I tried to contact the company but couldn't find anything in my web searches - The Keystone Group - _not_ Keystone Technologies I came to find out ... buyer beware :

Long Life bulbs have been a "thing" for years. Generally they are "rough service" bulbs designed for use at 150-165 volts which last virtually forever at 115 - with a lower than design light output - like a 100 watt bulb performs like a 60.

A variac dimmer cuts voltage with no pulsations - put a full wave rectifier on the output to make it even smoother.

Farm Duty bulbs are rated at 135 volts - - -

No. Googling I see where krypton filled bulbs are still available, mostly for small lights like flash lights with little information.

These came with our fixtures and ended up going way over our fixture allowance. Story was I refused to pay extra at closing and either supplier of builder was trying to cheat me by not filling the fixtures, e.g. a six bulb fixture with only 2 bulbs.
