On Topic: storage of 30% vinegar?

Hi All,



I need to store some gallon jugs of 30% vinegar in my garage. The label on the jug says not to store it "at high temperature". Not do not store above such and such temperature. I filled out the manufacture's (Harris) contact form and left a voice mail message during their working hours asking them what they meant. Got thoroughly ghosted both times. Okay, so Harris is a bunch of jerks and I will look for another supplier next time.



What do you guys think, what is too high a temperature?



My garage get up to about 85F and may peak at 100F temporarily in the summer.

Keep it out of sunlight in a cool dry place say 80°F or less and it will be good for a couple years easy. It's very high in acid and self- preserving. You may see some sediment over time, that won't hurt anything. Basements or pantries are usually the best places. Glass bottles with metal caps may rust out over a long time.

I do not know what 30% vinegar (weed killer) is made up of. My wife is worried that storing it too hot will cause a fire or an explosion.

Apple cider vinegar is 5%. My weeds adore 5% white vinegar. 30% messes them up pretty good. One shot kill on dandelions. Takes two treatments on

6" or larger cheat grass. 1/4 cup table salt + 1/4 cup dish washing liquid per 1 gallon 30% vinegar.

It is 30% acetic acid. It will not explode and fire hazard, it catching fire, is minimal. My garage gets hot in the summer and can dip below freezing in the winter so I would probably store it in the basement.

The gallon jobs are sealed and capped. Does that make a difference.

Storing it up to go kill weeds. Should be used in about a month.

Very often safety and flammability warnings are not given for the specific mixture but for the pure ingredients. I have written many safety data sheets like this and err on the side of caution.

Glacial, technically is 100%. Practically anything over about 90% could be considered glacial ,I suppose.

I never dealt with 30% acetic acid but used 100% in the lab along with acetic anhydride. I recall running reactions in it using acetic anhydride and 90% hydrogen peroxide to prepare epoxides. Fun days.
