I'm sure you can.

However, a DIY 400w halogen work light is pretty cheap and unlikely to be used for long periods - so the energy cost may not be significant. But the high light output may well be essential.

At this time of year its worth remembering they are hot. In summer you may want the LEDs.

To most, the important thing is how much light (and likely the quality of that) it gives. Why it's called a work light.

Honestly? I'd happily trade some of the light off for a bit less heat output and a FUCKLOAD less fragility.
