Snow gates in Scotland

Durability versus performance. Harley correctly assumed most Sportster riders don't ride in a very sporty manner so they went for durability.

The dual-compound Spitfires handled a lot better but got less than half the life.

No. I put covers on the bikes for the winter but the car and pickup are on their own. UV is the real problem and I'd think soggy would cut that down a bit. Maybe not. I've got transition lenses. The chemistry works better in the cold and they respond to UV. All that means is on an overcast winter day I can't see where I'm going.

Short answer: it depends on the language. For example in JavaScript it substitutes a value.

const foo = "bar" console.log(`belly up to the ${foo}`);

prints out 'belly up to the bar'

Trivial example but it comes in handy. C# would be

Console.WriteLine($"belly up to the {foo}");

In this case its the $" that allows for the substitution. Without the $ it prints the literal string.

I don't use PowerShell much, but it's an escape. In most language '\n' is the newline character, or '\t' is a tab. Since Windows does that backslash for paths, `n gets around the problem.

It keeps things confusing. In C "s" is a string, 's' is a character. In JavaScript both can be strings but they've got to match.

It's "Merkin". As in

It is in fact utterly illogical. The ' is already used as an apostrophe, so using the " for quotes is far more sensible, only settling for a ' when you have to, inside the quotes.

Remember "quotation mark", 'apostrophe'. Two entirely different beasts.

I suppose you also use "fewer", an invention in about 1880.

Would you still write 'global warming' if you hadn't used the " marks earlier on?

Why make the reader think harder?

If it's too wide you can't perform a didi ride.

Breasts can have a gap anywhere from zero to a breast width. Look up "east west", or just get around a bit more.

....you're all so morbidly obese you all have one.

So you're specific about each one? Eg. bricklayer? What if you don't know which part of the house someone is building?

So is a mechanic.

If you wanted performance, why would you buy a Harley anyway? Style and comfort...

I spend too much time in US fora.

In the Unix shell the backquote performs the command inside and puts the result where it is.

Style had a lot to do with it. Not as in 'stylish' but my conception of what a bike looks like. Comfort came into it too. I originally looked at Dynas but the feet forward position wasn't appealing and gave me twinges in my hip for some reason. Maybe nostalgia; my first bike was a '55 FLH.

I'd also looked at BMWs but that was the era when they got away from the boxer engines and I thought the new style was ugly.

I've enjoyed it. While not a crotch rocket if I was performance I jump on the VStrom. I also find that very comfortable. If I'm headed for a trailhead I take the DR650. Horse for courses. I had a Yamaha Seca which I sold. Oddly its performance, seating position, and capabilities were too similar to the Sportster despite being a UJM.

Oooh fora! Most people say forums. In fact the first isn't in my newsreader's dictionary.

They pronounce it cenner anyway. The stoopid stoodent cennered the myrrh in the aloominum howsing.

Which it is! How thick can you be? The distance you travel with the tyre correctly inflated is the circumference of the rolling diameter. Otherwise it wouldn't be a rolling diameter would it, it would just be a diameter!

F*ck all UV here. I would have thought soggy rots things.

But my point is you'd think the namby pamby brigade would only allow us to use well gripping tyres.
