SCANTRONIC 9448+ intruder alarm

Hello all... My 9448+ has gone 'rogue' for when we try to set it to go out the normal beep, beep sounds for about 30 seconds and then the internal sou nder goes off and just keeps going but the external sounder does not sound at all. The zone 6 PA (Panic Alarm) led also lights and stays lit and all we can do is enter our access code to shut the thing down. I have the full engineers manual but I can't find anything that might help within it! The USER GUIDE tells me to 're-set the panic button' but nowhere can I discove r how to do that! Maybe this is 'finger trouble'? Any help would be gratef ully appreciated.

Richard.

Disconnect Zone 6 at the panel or replace the connection with a shorting U loop. See what happens.

When our house had a ?panic button? it had a key to reset the button, presumably to stop an intruder easily resetting it.

That's interesting. We "inherited" some panic buttons when we bought this house. I haven't tested them but had wondered why they had key holes but haven't got around to finding out - or finding a key!

Our panic button consists of a big red button that, when pressed, cannot be returned to its off position without the key. The key is pretty basic. It just rotates in its hole and pushes the button back up.

If we try and disarm the alarm while the button is still down, it just re-triggers, so a good idea to have the key handy if you accidentally press it (or someone presses it out of curiosity!)

Agree with the previous comment about disabling the zone. You can also set the zone to unused while you fix/replace the panic button.

Forgot to say, the user manual probably wont be much help to you. You will likely need the installation manual and the engineer code.

Dear Bill... Thank you indeed for your direction here! The problem is now solved but I have no idea as to what was the original cause! Zone 6 was no t connected at all, the connections were open circuit and 'floating', I don 't know if the board is essentially CMOS or TTL but there are quite a numbe r of discrete devices on the pcb. If it is CMOS the o/c could possibly have floated to a logical high (1) do you think? I have done what you suggest and put a shorting link across the Zone 6 terminals and then I, once again, re-set the system to it's initial default settings i.e. code 1234 etc. by putting a s/c across the reset Molex pins with the mains and battery discon nected, re-connecting the battery and then the mains supply... et voila!! The rogue behavior had ceased :-) ...and now all appears to be well. So B ill, thanks again...
