Sadolin Superdec Black Gloss

I'm not a huge fan of this supper glossy paint. I had some window sills done with it a few years ago in black and its already cracking, even though all the right preparation and undercoats were used. I'm currently thinking maybe black was a mistake as its untouchable in the sun. Brian

It's because it does not breathe like a latex does.

You can get hybrid paints (behavior part latex, part oil), but that won't be high gloss. The beauty of the hybrid, is it holds up well, at least the stuff I've used.

Right now, I have some of that high gloss oil to fix myself. The last actual oil I could get, was some Dulux. But just because you could get it, did not mean it was a good idea. They only sold it to "make the oil people happy". I guess that's why I bought it. Some of it is peeling (on some trim surfaces).

Latex is unheard of here

We had at least three kinds of paint: oil, latex, and hybrid.

They took away our stain (which I liked), because of VOC.

I used to use four gallons of stain on the fence, the hybrid I put over top, didn't need four gallons (because it's expensive and I can't afford to put four gallons of that on a fence). The stain used to be dirt cheap and cheerful. That's why if you splashed the stain around, it didn't matter. I used to put a plastic sheet near the fence, so I wouldn't look as bad a painter :-)

The hybrid finish, even goes over PTL. Normal instruction for finishes, say to "wait a year" before applying a finish to PTL. As a test, I applied the hybrid stuff only one month after the PTL job was done, and the finish didn't come off.

But it's still sensitive to friction, and if you use it on a stair tread, with enough traffic, you can wear a hole in it in a year. You can take the can out, and just re-do the treads and leave the rest, as is.

The hybrid and the latex, both wash out of the brush with soap and water.
